Active outdoor lifestyle (backpacking, pack rafting, backcountry skiing). Recent onset of tinnitus 10/2017. Hearing test apparently most consistent with noise induced hearing loss (around 6000-8000 Hz). My tinnitus sounds like a constant electric hum with a high pitched (8100 Hz) tone running through the center of it. I alternate between acceptance and despair. When it is quiet, I mostly hear the buzz and feel like I can get habituated to the sound. When it's louder I hear the piercing needle-like shriek which can keep me awake all night, and turn my thoughts more morbid.
