My Perspective on Tinnitus Changed After Sudden Hearing Loss — Look for Positives

@audioprog, thank you for sharing your positive story! Your experience resonated with me. Recently I've had the perception that my left ear is going through hearing loss. I have hyperacusis in my right ear only. My theory is that the imbalance in volume has kind of tricked my brain into...

    The Positivity Thread

My tinnitus is still there. But as of a month ago, I no longer need to take medication to sleep.

Tinnitus Masking: Bone Conduction Headphones (e.g., Aftershokz) — Share Your Experience

@Jupiterman, I am sorry to hear that the audiologists you've encountered have not been supportive/helpful. Like I said before, I have a personal relationship with this audiologist, so I trust him over internet folks who are doling out advice not based on science. I don't believe I asked for...

Tinnitus Masking: Bone Conduction Headphones (e.g., Aftershokz) — Share Your Experience

@Michael Leigh, I appreciate your intention to be helpful. But, I will take my chances with the trained professional who has done 5+ years of research, over the person who believes they are better suited to advise others, because they've experienced it for 3 years. Regardless, all the...

Tinnitus Masking: Bone Conduction Headphones (e.g., Aftershokz) — Share Your Experience

I was very careful in my wording saying "bone-conducting headphones are no more dangerous than regular headphones/earbuds". And with all due respect Michael, I trust my Audiologist because he has a Masters in Hearing Science and specializes in Tinnitus and Hearing Loss. Furthermore, he's a high...

What Caused My New Low-Pitched Vibrating Hum? Should I See an ENT and Try Steroids?

Hi @SaraK18, I'm really glad to hear the intrusive sound has subsided for you, and welcome back to Tinnitus Talk! Overall, my situation has improved significantly since last fall. The tinnitus is still there, but I have many more good days than bad. With a bit of help from Mirtazapine for...

Tinnitus Masking: Bone Conduction Headphones (e.g., Aftershokz) — Share Your Experience

I want to add to this thread that my experience with Shokz OpenRun has been a positive one. I read this thread prior to purchase and noticed it was quite divisive. Seeing there was a 45-day return guarantee, I figured why not give it a shot. I consulted my audiologist friend, and he said...

Tinnitus of Unknown Cause Has Flipped My Life Upside Down

Looks like I spoke too soon, last few days my tinnitus has rebounded with vengeance (loud and obnoxious)

My Dad's Tinnitus Success Story — From a Loud Flute Down to a Hiss Heard in Dead Silence

I've been lucky in that I haven't needed to use the noise masking feature. My hearing aids just boost certain high frequencies in my left ear, which at first made everything sound like I'm hearing through a metal tube. But over time, you get used to it and everything sounds normal again. I can't...

My Dad's Tinnitus Success Story — From a Loud Flute Down to a Hiss Heard in Dead Silence

I think it's great you're giving TRT a try. My audiologist friend set me up with demo hearing aids for noise therapy, and this coincided with when my tinnitus improved. I don't know if there's correlation, but it's certainly worth a try.

My Dad's Tinnitus Success Story — From a Loud Flute Down to a Hiss Heard in Dead Silence

No echo, but my left ear can range from crickets chirping to sounds of whooshing air (like from a vent). Thankfully it's not loud/annoying to the point where it bothers me. Now the morse code in my right ear is another story

My Dad's Tinnitus Success Story — From a Loud Flute Down to a Hiss Heard in Dead Silence

Similar to you, I developed tones and frequencies that change in both my ears during the summer. Lately it's gotten much better to the point that I think I can start tapering off my sleeping meds. Give it time, it'll get better :)

Tinnitus of Unknown Cause Has Flipped My Life Upside Down

New Year's Update: Time has gotten me through the initial on-set of anxiety and depression. In the past couple of weeks, my tinnitus, which changes tones and frequencies, has calmed down A LOT. This coincidentally coincides with when I started noise therapy. (A friend of mine is an Audiologist...

Tinnitus for 1.5 Months After Music Festival — The Most Horrible Ailment I've Ever Suffered

Yes, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I actually got tinnitus a month before you, but the origin is unknown (stress? substances?) I think my tinnitus may actually be caused by the psychedelics I tried in the summer (which is known to affect neuroplasticity). I'm a very infrequent user, but the...
