I love drumming, and was very good at it, but had to stop because of tinnitus. The 5 first years, roughly from 1980 to 1985, I played and practiced without any protection. I also attended some very loud rock concerts, in particular, a Genesis show in 1980, which left me for 24 hours with a T so intense that I couldn't hear someone speaking on the phone. In 1997, I took the decision to stop drumming, after an audiogram. My left ear, which is still the worst one, had already begun to lose high frequencies, in addition to T. After that, my T stayed stable for about 20 years, during which period I did not expose myself to loud noise for more than a few minutes at a time, and always had "emergency earplugs" in my wallet, in case I found myself in a noisy place, like a restaurant with loud music. I am now in my mid-fifties, and 2 years ago, my T, with no apparent reason apart from aging, got a little worse, and is now stable again, but at a louder level than before.
