The Resurgence of the Reel-to-Reel Tape Recorder

Thanks for the comments. I’ve been watching more YouTube videos about reel-to-reel tapes. Someone mentioned an interesting point: Sheffield Labs and some other companies, like Teldec, experimented with direct mastering technology to eliminate a step involving tape. This approach addressed...

The Resurgence of the Reel-to-Reel Tape Recorder

Fair enough. All things considered, I think I will stick with what I have and upgrade the cartridge at some point. It is good enough, and I enjoy listening to my records on it. I consider myself serious about listening to music, even if you and other audiophiles might not agree. I have been...

The Resurgence of the Reel-to-Reel Tape Recorder

Fair enough, Michael. To make a proper judgment, I’d need to get hold of one of these machines and compare. Maybe I’d find the difference worthwhile, or maybe not. My current setup, an RP2 with a base-level cartridge, already provides me with good-quality playback, so I’ll stick with that for...

The Resurgence of the Reel-to-Reel Tape Recorder

I had heard it was expensive, but wow, that is expensive. I get most of my LPs for pounds. 22 minutes a side, though I have some LPs up to 30 minutes a side. Two Mozart piano concertos comfortably go on one LP - or a pair of quartets. I find this reasonable. Personally, I would find it a bit...

How much do the tapes cost? How much music can you put on one reel? Is it cost effective?

    Do We Live in Simulation?

I can't prove I am not living in a simulation. But I have no good reason to believe that I am.

My Tinnitus Is 50% Gone Because of Nigella Sativa (Black Seed Oil)

How long is long enough? There has to come a point when you decide X is long enough. There are hundreds of remedies like Black Seed Oil. Why not try them one by one for say three months at a time? That should take you nicely to the end of your life when tinnitus is finally silenced.

The Resurgence of the Reel-to-Reel Tape Recorder

I admire your determination. I'm glad you got the cost covered for the repair. That is an interesting comment about the reel-to-reel stripping the hardness away from the CD. I think this is probably true of digital LPs, which I find better-sounding than CDs with the same recording, though I do...

I Invented a Sound That Knocked Out My Tinnitus

Two days of relief in 21 nights is not impressive. I do not have to do this, and my tinnitus varies—I can easily get 4-5 days out of 21 when it is fairly negligible. Let us know if the results improve once you find a way of keeping the headphones on overnight. Frankly, since Tinnitus Mix is...

Almost 100% Cured of Hyperacusis and Tinnitus

There are many reports of people who get tinnitus for a short time only, and it clears up without them following any particular program. It also seems that when someone can pinpoint how they got it - a cause - there appears to be a better chance of it clearing. I have no idea what caused mine...

I just read that many blind people see flashing lights etc. Similar then to brain filling in the gaps as in tinnitus.

    War in Ukraine — Megathread

A UK military strategist has been explaining how Russia could win the war this year. I do wonder how things will look if/when Russia does win. Imagine the billions that have been pumped into that war by the West and the numbers killed. It would mean a fast Russian victory would have been a...

    Does Your Hi-Fi System Sing?

    I have had two Audio-Technica cartridges recommended - the AT-VM95ML at £150 and the AT-VM540ML at £220.

    Does Your Hi-Fi System Sing?

Thanks for all the advice. I only mentioned Black Rhodium as I know the guy who owns it - Graham Nalty - socially. We go back to the late 80s. He started out with a firm called Audiokits in the 70s - selling amplifier kits for enthusiasts to build their own. Then he went into the amp business...
