Random Tinnitus Spike — Any Ideas Why?

Hello all, It's been awhile since I last visited. The good, or should I say great news is that I have sucessfully habituated to the constant ringing in my ear. 99% the time, I am not phased by the noise like I used to be and quickly forget about it when I'm reminded of it. Things have...

I Won't Leave the House Without plugging. Is This normal?

I really have no idea what caused it. As reported by other users on here though, it's not uncommon for peoples T to spike for no apparent reason. It sucks but there isn't much we can do about it when it happens other than trying not to panic and learn to cope, which while possible, from past...

I Won't Leave the House Without plugging. Is This normal?

As others have said, you'd be harming yourself more than protecting yourself if you continue wearing plugs at all times. Don't be afraid of a little environmental noise. Having it there can act as a natural mask for T. I know if I could I'd definitely be thanking all the cicarders around my area...

What Was the Last Movie You Watched? What Did You Think about It?

The way, way back. Only recent movie I've seen that's worth mentioning. Steve Carrel and Toni Collette both earned a place on my "good actors list" from 'Little Miss Sunshine' and to see them paired together again in this movie made it a must watch. Oh, and AnnaSophia Robb being in it was a nice...

What's the worst part about having tinnitus?

Probably how quicky it can change my mood. I'm lucky enough to have it at a bareable noise most of the time, but when it spikes out of no where my mood immediately goes downhill and only improves once it's back to normal. It's an incredibly stressful time because you never know when it'll return...

Need Some Tips on Coping with Noisy Places

If you were at an 8 hour event and used your earplugs most of the time it's probably just you trying to readjust. Earplugs are good to protect yourself from outside noises, but they'll temporarily make you more conscious of the noise going on in your ear(s) to a greater extent as outside noise...

Headphones & Tinnitus — Do / Can You Still Use Them?

Headphones that sit on the ears I'd be okay with. Earplugs are a no-go. I don't like having my ears blocked and nearly nothing but the noise from the plugs being directed straight into the ear. Irrational as it may be considering I would have control over the volume, since the development of my...

    Hello all.

Hi Bridget, One good thing about your case is that your ENT will have some sense of direction in looking to find a cause for your tinnitus as it only appeared after your surgery. For most of us there doesn't seem to be any clear cut reason that can be pinned down and as a result makes a...

    Constantly Changing Tinnitus?

I'm only familiar with a high-pitched ringing. It's constant and rarely changes pitch.

    New to Group

Totally understandable that you need to vent. We get that a lot here! I just read your post in the other thread about how your family didn't understand when you tried to explain it to them. Check out my response to that if you haven't already. One thing that just came to mind also; if for...

How to Explain Tinnitus to Friends and Family

As other in the thread have said, it really isn't something that can be explained away in an easy and understandable fashion unless the person you're explaining it to has experienced it themselves. There's so much truth to this. The second best thing you can do if you really must tell someone...

    What Is Tinnitus Habituation Really?

Straight forward logic dictates it's easier for people with mild T to adjust than people with louder. It depends a lot of the person too. Their mentality towards the issue, what they do most days/the level of noise they surround themselves in, and I say they because while I consider my tinnitus...

I Have Always Been Sensitive to Sounds and Noises

Yep, I even had a similar experience with a squealing TV. I managed to deal with it though. https://www.tinnitustalk.com/threads/external-tinnitus-noise-could-it-have-made-an-impact.2125/ I think T has made me slightly phobic of certain sounds. Yesterday my T spiked for seemingly no reason so I...

External Tinnitus Noise — Could It Have Made an Impact?

@Carlo I've got no real answers either, though I guess we can only speculate. It's probably a good thing you didn't keep listening if what'd happened to you was anything like what 'happened' to me from the computer, which I am still not sure if it comes into it at all. I just thought though I...
