MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) Discussion & Experiences & Questions

An MRI is a standard test with tinnitus because in rare cases it can be caused by a neuronoma. I've had two MRIs now, one for tinnitus and one a few years later for pulsatile tinnitus. Neither of them showed anything. Why are you hesitant about having an MRI?

    Define Severe Tinnitus?

There is a Tinnitus Functional Index which takes into account the volume of your tinnitus plus how it impacts on your life to give you an overall score, but I can't find any indication of what score counts as 'severe'. I couldn't paste a link here but you could Google it.

Is it possible to have tinnitus a long time without any changes?

It's not silly at all. I've had depression for a year and a half and have only just started taking regular meds for it because I just don't like taking medication of any kind and they can also make it more difficult to work your way through your feelings. So good luck, I hope you manage to pull...

Is it possible to have tinnitus a long time without any changes?

Hi Rich, just curious, what does 'pre diagnosed with organic depression' mean?

    Angry or Relieved?

In my case the MRA/MRV will be looking at my neck. A Doppler is a kind of ultrasound which also looks at blood flow in the blood vessels.

    Angry or Relieved?

I thought I'd do an update with some positive news...I'm feeling fairly reassured after seeing the new ENT. He knew at least as much as I did about PT, he answered all my questions and he's going to do more tests including an MRA/MRV and a Doppler. He's also referring me to a speech therapist...

Clarithromycin/antibiotics : Anyone had permanent tinnitus after taking it?

So, it's only 3 weeks since you stopped taking it? There's every chance it's some sort of spike and will shorten down again. My t recently became reactive for about 3 weeks but is a little better now. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Clarithromycin/antibiotics : Anyone had permanent tinnitus after taking it?

I took it once and that night I had the weirdest T - it was more like auditory hallucinations. I heard a dog barking, then a vacuum cleaner, then a clicking sound like dolphins make. They only lasted about an hour (thank goodness) and I've never taken chlorythromycin again. I only took one...

    Feedback/Ringing When Talking

I don't have your particular symptoms but in the last few months I have acquired several new sounds, all very different, and it makes it very hard to habituate. I can't offer any wise words but I understand how hard it is. I tbink you're doing the right things in getlting on with your life...

    Going to ask for meds

You were wuite right to point it out - there's a lot of stigma here, too, with mental health. I hope it didn't sound like I was taking issue with what you said; I was having a moan at the system rather than at your post!

    Going to ask for meds

It's virtually impossible to see a psychiatrist in my part of the world (I've seen one once, for an hour, in a year and a half of severe depression) and you don't get to choose who you see. I'm lucky if I get to see the same GP twice in a row. I'm not sure that the sort of health care you...

    Going to ask for meds

From the patient information leaflet that came with the meds. It seemed high to me, too, that's why I didn't take them.

    Going to ask for meds

Because tinnitus was listed as a common side effect, affecting 1 in 10 people, and I didn't want to risk my T getting worse.

    Going to ask for meds

I was presceiped Citalopram and didn't take it. My GP prescribed Paroxetent instead. Not sure whether it's made the T worse (something has!) but I've since started Diazepam, which seems to have helped the anxiety and therefore the T.

    Hearing Test

I'm afraid I don't have an answer but I thought my hearing had deteriorated significantly in recent months but my hearing test showed no change from a year ago. I found myself wondering what had happened, too.
