New University of Michigan Tinnitus Discovery — Signal Timing

Quick question: How many of the trial subjects had had tinnitus for over two years? In short, did they test subjects with chronic tinnitus?

Is It Normal to Have a Gap in the Middle of the Hearing Frequency Range?

I am finding that my right is is deaf at tones around 12 kHz, but if I increase the tone to 14 kHz, suddenly it kicks back in again. Is this normal? For what reason could someone have a gap in the middle of their frequency range?

Tinnitus Research Initiative (TRI) 2019 Conference

Yes actually. Demonstrating real socioeconomic effects of the condition through data, as opposed to anecdotal evidence, may help secure funding and support.

For Those of You Who Get Tinnitus Spikes from Sugar, Do You Cut Out Fruits?

I'm not interested in further discourse with you. Please respect the mod's deletion and please don't hijack this thread or other threads I post in.

For Those of You Who Get Tinnitus Spikes from Sugar, Do You Cut Out Fruits?

Yes, like I've heard that people find some comfort from cutting out white bread.

A poll got added? Huh. Okay! I was looking more for direct advice, but that works too.

For Those of You Who Get Tinnitus Spikes from Sugar, Do You Cut Out Fruits?

I'm going to try adjusting my diet a bit to cut out processed sugars because I think my tinnitus spikes after I eat stuff like cake or ice cream. I want, however, to keep putting mangos and blueberries in my morning smoothies because that stuff is really good for you. For those of you who get...

I Think It's a Mistake to Bank on a Cure

It absolutely could help people with hearing loss related tinnitus and the expectation is that if it works to reduce hearing loss it will help with hearing loss induced tinnitus as well. Help isn't the same as a cure (although for a few people, it might be) and not all tinnitus is related to...

I Think It's a Mistake to Bank on a Cure

Lenire is not a cure nor being touted as such; it is a treatment that helps curb tinnitus to some extent in some cases. FX-322 is a hearing restoration drug, not a cure for tinnitus; the same is true of Regain. Either may, or may not, help with any given tinnitus case. Suggesting that there is...

I Think It's a Mistake to Bank on a Cure

Again, you are misreading me. I am not advocating NOT taking medication. I think taking medication to deal with tinnitus is fine.

I Think It's a Mistake to Bank on a Cure

10 years for a cure is a very optimistic time frame. Stating that plainly is not fear mongering.

I Think It's a Mistake to Bank on a Cure

I hope that for myself as well. But that hope needs to be measured against the reality of the situation for it not to be false.

I Think It's a Mistake to Bank on a Cure

I am not advocating for not taking medication, at all. If I came across that way, I did not mean to. My point is more that some people seem to bank more than they should on the idea that they will be free from their tinnitus shortly due to medical intervention. If they put too much faith in this...

I Think It's a Mistake to Bank on a Cure

By that I mean even if there was a viable new treatment that appeared to be effective, you are talking years of trials, animal then human, before that treatment became accessible. So any given thing you hear, keep in mind that even if it did pan out it's likely a decade off. I'm not trying to...

Hello! Just Got Tinnitus for the Second Time

Hey, glad to hear your spike got better! Mine seems to ebb and flow. Sometimes it is barely there and other times it is quite bad. So we'll see. The water doesn't move in my head much, but if I plug my nose and blow (gently of course) I can feel it swell up in my right ear.
