I don't understand - How could that give you silence?
Drone Draper
It's not really silence, but it is the closest thing I've come to.

Hearing aids amplify external sounds, which both seem to drown out the T and somewhat lower the signal (I have hearing loss, after all).

The muffs create a seal, so there's not much sound coming to the hearing aids, more "dead air".
Drone Draper
Like I said, definitely not normal behaviour.

I can still hear the tinnitus when I do this, but it's a lot more faint. If I heard this level of tinnitus without the two, I would probably not have registered on this board and just gone ahead with CBT.
TheDanishGirl
Oh I see. Thanks for clearing that up. I don't have measurable hearing loss myself.
Drone Draper
Jealous! Do you know what's caused your T?
TheDanishGirl
Ha. I am jealous of people with hearing loss......I always think that they at least have the option of putting on hearing aids and have the T faint a bit into the background. I don't have that option - my T is from years of loud music through headphone.......still......no hearing loss......at least not detectable.
TheDanishGirl
I also don't feel I have any hearing loss. I hear everything clearly......no muffled sounds. But I am sure something is wrong in the very high frequencies where my T is.
Drone Draper
Ah, I know there's a few other people on here with T and perfectly normal audiograms like Ed209 and dpdx.
Drone Draper
I'm not thrilled at the prospect of using hearing aids. The audiologist I'm seeing says I can wear these for half a year or so and there's a chance the signal could lessen and I may not need them after that. I don't know how this makes logical sense, he said it was standard TRT protocol. I think the hope is probably that I just habituate to my T with or without the hearing aids.

If it turns out I need hearing aids long term, I'm going in-ear all the way. Phonak Lyric, sign me up.

Wym going in ear all the way? Inner ear hearing aids or ??

Can you take them out?
S
It seems like you can't..
S
Wouldn't you want to take them out though? So you won't be hearing loud noises or are they monitored through your phone?
S
It'd be nice if you can turn them off from your phone.
