My new job is exhibitions & display designer for different museums around Suffolk and Essex. I was working with historical architecture but the National Trust (look up if you can) has been hit really hard by covid. They've laid off 1300 people and furloughed the rest. I had no idea if I'd even have a job after the new year. So I've jumped ship and gone to play with the museum trustees instead
That is so cool! I hear a lot about the National Trust on PBS shows I watch about the great English houses. My first degree was in design and I studied architecture in school before I later went back for an education degree. I love, love historical architecture. So glad I was able to travel when I was younger. What a cool job and great diversion from T!
I bought a National Trust membership during my trip to England in 2019. My plan had been to come back to England in 2020. Too bad that it didn't work out.
Congrats Steph! Has anyone seen Victorian Farm Christmas? Three historians recreate what it was like to celebrate in the 1800s. Excellent series by the BBC!
@twa what you studied is awesome! And I'm so happy when others outside the country know of our National Trust. It really is an amazing organisation, and we have so much to thank them for here in England. You said you've been to England before. Where abouts did you visit? And you've studied very similar topics to me. :)
@Bill Bauer I think I've mentioned it to you before - but if you ever come to England, please get in touch with me. I will gladly show you around our NT properties. Also I'll now be able get you in free to some of our museums and historic events if you ever wanted. You should most definitely visit where I am in Suffolk. We have tonnes of NT properties here, as well as beautiful English countryside.
