Yesterday I've encountered a really loud fire engine. I was at the distance but today everything is ringing as Hell. If I would have considered every event like this as an acoustic trauma, I would go nuts a long time ago. I just don't panic about it anymore. It's impossible to live in the city and avoid noise.
I was walking into the rink for my son's hockey game and some kid shot a puck right into the boards right as I was walking by. Sounded like a gunshot. I jumped like 20 feet. It's so hard to avoid certain noises. Twice I didn't notice the clock and forgot to plug my ears before the loud buzzer went off. It's hard to protect yourself from noises you can't anticipate.
