I've trouble going to sleep sometimes, too. Have you tried going for a walk or doing a bit of exercising before bedtime to make yourself a little more tired? Or, if you have a tub, a nice hot bath should help with relaxing the body and mind.
If nothing else helps (and I'm probably giving really bad advise here), I have a glass of whiskey and coke. On the down side, it tends to send my hyperacusis into overdrive but on the up, it pretty much puts me to sleep right away.
I think relaxing is most likely the best route. It is jarring when you have constant habituation and it suddenly switches up on you. I would say that T has a mind of its own, and you just battle with it as best you can. I've started taking melatonin and valerian root, knocks me out.
