The best plugs you can get for high frequency sound is foam. My 3M 1100's are rated +40 dB at 4 kHz and above, which is a significant reduction. The best protection one can have are foam plugs in combination with a good set of ear muffs.
Thank you. My biggest enemy when I'm out in the yard is chipmunks. Lol. They let out a whistle sound. Almost feels like it attacks the ear drum is where the pain comes from.
@Stacken77, do you think these foam ones are better than custom ones made from silicone? i have a pair and when going outside they seem to protect less than with peltor muffs. Cant get it. Some ppl say muffs dont have that much occlusion on your ears. Thank you!Since my ear infection my ear canal didnt come back in size as it was so cant use foam plug in my bad ear.
@Ela Stefan Silicon plugs doesn't usually fill the entire ear canal, unlike foam when deeply inserted, this gives foam the advantage of high protection and minimal occlusion effect. Custom molded silicon plugs (with high fidelity filters) has it's place, like when we need to hear conversation, to let through more high frequency sound, which otherwise would be greatly attenuated by foam plugs.
@Stacken77 in what situations do you weare them please? I have /had 0 sensitivity to ear whatsoever, but my t is reactive enough.Which has been always weird to me!Problem is my left ear canal, the ex inflammated ear( external canal and middle ear) is smaller since then. What shoud I do?
@Ela Stefan I use foam plugs when outside, in some circumstances like driving in combination with muffs. Indoors I usually use custom molds with 15-25 dB filters, with the exception of handling the dishes where I use double protection. In a lot of conversations I have foam in one ear, and custom molded in the other, both to save my bad ear, and to avoid triggering my H from severe occlusion of having 2 custom molds.
@Ela Stefan My case is extreme though. I recommend that you sleep without plugs, and don't use them as much in quiet environments. Single or double protection is completely justified when handling dishes, walking down a city street or driving - in my opinion.
@Stacken77 thank you! I had no idea custom ones can give more of an occlusion sensation for the ears. What kind of muffs do you use please? My t is that weird ..I suspect it came more from a local neuropathy in the middle ear, local dry inflammation.Someone can yell next to me and have no ear discomfort whatsoever.
