My dad influenced me to love listening to music loudly and man, is that something I will do differently with my kid. He has pretty significant hearing loss but no tinnitus!
You shouldn't blame ear problems to any kind of music. You can still listen to any "loud" genre, like death metal, grindcore, EDM, dubstep etc even with tinnitus. If you have a good routine of not exceeding dB levels and limit headphones a lot, you are fine! Also, these heavy genres are "sausaged" which means they have less dynamic range and less volume "spikes", so at even low levels, you are not missing any detail.
