My right ear used to react to any kind of music for a while, and now it does so only occasionally, on bad days. I'm hoping that this calms down completely for me, and that your problems follow the same trajectory!

Sorry to hear that. My left ear is bad. I had an airplane barotrauma in 2008 that probably damaged my inner ear. I had a TMJ fat graft done last Thursday but it didn't seem to help so far. I always wake up to my loudest noise after overnight sleep or a nap. Sometimes the noise gets minimal but it always resets upon awakening.

@just1morething, I am so sorry. This whole thing just sucks. Woke up in the middle of the night and mine was even higher pitched than before. I seem to be getting worse.

@Forever hopeful. It sure does suck. I have 3 sets of hearing aids, the last being Widex Zen. Sometimes they seem to get me some relief. I have neuropathy in my toes/feet since 2014. I don't like that either. They are numb and sting bad sometimes.

@just1morething, I think having any kind of comorbidity with tinnitus is just the worst. I actually have numbing in my toes. I have terrible bursitis it will not go away because it's mechanical. I don't have hearing aids. I've considered TRT but because I have reactive tinnitus and it's ridiculously high-pitched like a dentist drill or a jet engine. I'm probably not a good candidate for maskers.

@Forever hopeful . I was just wondering how your tinnitus was. I seen an ENT recently and he just sucked ear wax out of both of my ears. That was extremely loud and uncomfortable. I'm still looking for relief. Sometimes Lyrica helps but waking up is always a nightmare. I got maskers but that doesn't fix anything.

@just1morething,

I have good days and bad days. This is been a rough week, as it's been exceptionally loud. Very annoying high-pitched hiss. Last week it was better.

I'm doing a version of TRT but I'm not using them in your maskers.

You may want to consider not allowing the ENT to use the suction tool to clean out the wax. I always require my ENT to use a curette. That way it's not loud at all.

Yeah the ENT went at sucking right away without even asking me about using a curette. He did the same thing a tear ago. I asked him about the loud noise causing worse tinnitus and he said he didn't think it would. I'm thinking that I'm stuck with noise for the rest of my life. He did mention the tinnitus clinic down the road. I was there once and wasn't impressed. He charged me $450 or so for basically doing nothing.

I have some expired Arches Formula and Lipoflavanoids I will try for now. I hope we both can find some relief.

@just1morething, A lot of people on here recommend NAC if you've had a noise exposure.
My audiologist also has me taking something called sound bytes. Look them up.
My ears are very loud this afternoon. Just spent like two minutes swapping out bowls under an air popcorn popper that was loud. But I really doubt those two minutes led to a spike. I think just the fluctuating fluctuating tinnitus that I have.

@just1morething, also, I guess I'm fortunate that my ENT also has tinnitus. She would never use suction on my ears. I'm dubious of an ENT saying he doesn't think it will impact your hearing. I know many people on the site have had spikes and problems related to ENTs using the suction device. Forward definitely stop them before they do that and ask for the curette. It's your ears. They have to do what you ask

@Forever hopeful, I will ask for the ENT do remove wax manually next time. They should really ask their patient. I think the suction device has a magnifying camera on it so it's faster for them.

I think there is more wrong with my ear. Perhaps it's a Eustachian tube problem or something with the tiny bones in my ear. I'm always the worst when I wake up.

@Forever hopeful, I can't believe I've been putting up with this noise for all these years. I have an upcoming appt. This Wednesday with an ENT in Edina, MN. Maybe I'll need surgery of some type. Yesterday I took 600 mg ibuprofen plus 2 Tylenol and it settled down.
