I've told people at work i have an "ear problem" that forces me to wear earplugs and to stay away from loud sounds. Most have been understanding. What kind of work is your boss having you do?
I told him a couple of months ago and I'm glad I did. I've been doing fine and today I got a sudden episode of ear fullness followed by a massive spike in hyperacusis. My own voice is unbearable. Think this is the end at that job
I told my boss at my last job, when I worked in high school. I knew him to be a kind and caring man, and he rearranged my tasks so that I could avoid the loudest situations. I was lucky enough to know I could trust him, he's like a father to me so I didn't hesitate long before telling him my concerns... Turned out he has tinnitus too, very severely. He's so calm and composed I never would have guessed.
I understand you might be hesitant to tell her if you're not very close, but you never know - she might be compassionate and try to make things easier for you, keep you out of situations that might jeopardize your health... I know this is a hard conversation to have, but there's nothing to lose. You have all of my support, hang in there.
