@Moni97 acceptance was the hardest part to swallow. after I stopped looking for a magical cure everyday and started learning to cope is when the anxiety kinda toned down a bit. Nobody wants this shit, but what's the use of micro measuring it everyday .. just brings even more grief and depression. You have to find your balance ⚖️ if not you'll be stuck in constant panic mode
Moni97
@Sammy0225 How do find a balance? What do you even do for minimal enjoyment when all sounds are terrifying or hurt? How do interact with other humans? What anxiety coping mechanisms are there that don't include sound. God this is probably one of the worse diseases ever f****** imaginable. I don't get how anyone is surviving this

@Moni97 my apologies I didn't read your profile information till now. Seeing you had mild H up until when you attended the new years party. Right now I can only imagine that your ears are highly over stimulated from the setback I wouldn't recommend any kind of noise masking right now. focus on getting the mental state of mind relaxed as much as possible. Keep telling yourself you will overcome this.

I remember waking up odd hours of the night crying and contemplating life. I know how you feel, I had 4/ 5 unmaskable tones competing with each other 24/7. Eventually everything will calm down in due time but for now try much as possible controlling the anxiety. I know much easier said then done but I wish someone gave me this advise when my H started cause the panic makes it 100x worse

Some noises came back after getting the flu but I'm trying my best to relax and say, I'm not gonna let this shit beat me
Moni97
People keep telling me that I'll mostly recover and that this is only a mild setback but I find that hard to believe when my own voice seems to make my ears ache after talking a bit. I'm scared of every sound. Even with my ear protection on, I hear things still and it's scary. Idk if I'm setting myself up for failure by staying in my home.
Moni97
@Sammy0225 also I think you're an incredibly strong human being. But I'm sorry this condition was the way to test that strength.
Sammy0225
@Moni97 that fear of sound is called phonophobia I developed that shortly after H and you are incredibly strong too and thank you I appreciate that

The ear problems haven't been linear (they rarely are). You'll find you do different things at different stages of your progression (hopefully only upward) to get through.

I read a lot initially (helped with the habituation). Then played a lot of video games later down the line. Then started going out a lot with earplugs in.

We all find different ways to cope with the illness. Just test the waters with caution and you are unlikely to go wrong.
Moni97
Any suggestions on reading materials? I could use a good story to help vacate my situation mentally
