Tinnitus Talk Support Forum

I just checked my hearing through an app on my phone and it's showing no changes compared to December. I think booking a hearing test might be a waste of time but I'm not sure what else to do since my symptoms are so intense right now. I feel so lopsided but my hearing test results on my phone don't reflect a major difference in hearing between my two ears.
S
Have you seen an ENT at all?
AnthonyMcDonald
Hearing tests, ENTs, Audiologists are useless when it comes to tinnitus. Might be worth doing an extended frequency hearing test instead of the usual up to 8Khz. But hearing tests won't tell you much. For example hidden hearing loss.
B
@Strawberryblonde I did see an ENT a few years ago but I haven't been able to see one since my symptoms started increasing in November. I'm currently on a wait list for one.
B
@AnthonyMcDonald No one has ever been able to help in the past. It's that every time my symptoms increase and I go in to be seen, they send me in for a hearing test. Then they brush me off when my hearing test results come back in the normal range (I have done an extended range hearing test through the app on my phone and that has shown hearing loss in the high frequency hearing loss in both ears).

@BeMagnified unless they can actually see a problems that can be fixed they all seem to give the same answer.

@Strawberryblonde when this first started in 2007, they figured I might've had Meniere's disease. Eventually that was ruled out because my hearing didn't worsen over time. Now for the last few years, I have had fluid sitting behind both eardrums and so they blame my symptoms on that.
B
@Strawberryblonde They haven't tried to help me with the fluid besides prescribing steroid nasal spray. The nasal spray hasn't gotten rid of the fluid nor has it helped much with my chronic nasal congestion and sinus pain and pressure. It's been a frustrating experience all around.
S
Sounds like you've been through it with them :-/ it's so rare to find one that can get to the root of the problem. @BeMagnified have you tried anything sort of natural?.
I suffer with post nasal drip and bad sinues so I've been knocking back pineapple juice too see if that helps. I'll Literally try anything if it claims to work.
S
@Leila recommended bromelain for issues I was having with a cold and that also is found in pineapples hence me drinking loads of it.
B
@Strawberryblonde I really haven't done much experimenting. At this point, I just avoid what I know will make it worse (like saline rinses of all things). I have never heard of bromelain. It looks like it's recommended for chronic sinusitis. Have you had any results with the pineapple juice yet?
Leila
I love pineapple junks / juice but I'm not sure how well it will work as a "medication". You'll probably have to consummate lots of it in order to come close to the amount of the extracted stuff they put in the capsules. Then again, it's delicious and healthy, so go for it @Strawberryblonde :)
S
Not as yet as I don't think I'm drinking enough of it. But may also try bromelain supplements and buying some actual pineapples to see of they help in the long run. Id rather try that at first as always to nervous to try medicines especially with my T. @BeMagnified
