She recommended Cymbalta because it's not just an antidepressant but also a pain reliever that might help with the noxacusis. I read as much as I could about it, and I'm still hesitant to start taking it. My depression is awful most of the time, but on not-so-bad days I feel like I can continue to get by without meds, which is why I haven't started taking it. I hope flexeril works for you.

Ive been on cymbalta for almost 3 weeks with no issue. Started at 20mg and working up to 60mg (on 40mg currently). Tinnitus is a 1:10 side effect but I've had no issues, no real benefit either though!

Stopping Flexeril today, apparently it can affect progesterone and I already struggle with low progesterone therefore T has been brutal and sensitive the past two days. Onto the next I guess. Thank you for input!

I'm sorry to hear that Flexeril wasn't right for your needs. Let us know what you try next. My symptoms have been mild for the past two days, but if they get worse again, I'll have to revisit whether I want to get on Cymbalta or not. My HMO offered me personalized biofeedback lessons and hypnotherapy to cope with chronic pain, so that's another avenue to explore in lieu of meds or in addition to them.

@ErikaS So when I was in the ER for this whole tinnitus thing, my nurse had Tinnitus as well and tries cymbalta and said she thinks it made her tinnitus worse. I know everyone is different but please be careful. I'm in this entire mess because of a low dose anxiety med!
ErikaS
Thanks for the insight @Mo8409 :) I have not gotten on any other meds recently. Some new supplements but no new meds, still taking low dose Ativan a day and a low dose Remeron for sleep. What anxiety med gave it to you?

By the way, I did start taking Cymbalta 2 weeks ago. It changed the tinnitus in my right ear to musical ear syndrome. So now I have regular tinnitus on the left and music on the right. On the bright side, the depression has eased up a lot. Can't decide whether to stay on this med or switch to another.

That's good to hear about the depression @ECP .. helping ease your pain at all?
Mo8409
@ErikaS It was Busphar. I was on it for 3 weeks and even took a quarter of the lowest dose. Had my hearing and extended hearing and other ear tests and passed with flying colors. Side effects on the medication bottle.... Ringing in the ears. Oh how I wish I knew that at the time.

@ErikaS Yes. I'm happy with Cymbalta overall. Musical tinnitus is slightly less annoying than the regular kind.

@Mo8409 Ugh I'm so sorry. I do think given that your hearing was not affected, you absolutely have chance to heal from this. I've read the brain can just take a long time to heal when something goes awry like this, but it can. Like my taste and smell distortion from Covid in 2020. Took a good year and a half to 2 years to say I was 85% better. No real improvement until after the year mark.
