Unfortunately I don't have too much to say since it won't be much of a help. I got it two days after ear irrigation and it also started on my left ear only, the one that cleared up but the right ear was still blocked. I was getting ear drops for the right ear until I saw the ENT the week afterwards when he could finally clear that ear.
EternalRinging
Weird thing is that the ringing didn't started on that ear until 3 months after that.

Looks like you are also suffering from reactive tinnitus. Have you found any triggers, apart from sound reactivity?

Mine gets triggered by ototoxic drugs and caffeine as well

Hey @EternalRinging

I have a feeling I'm dealing with some type of Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. I feel like there's a chance that my Ear Irrigation messed something up. I have a feeling that the nasal spray that I'm using to clear up the ETD is spiking it but I can't tell for sure.
Matthew231
Similarly to your case, mine didn't really start up until about 1-2 days after the fact. I'm hoping that it's an ETD related thing but tbh I'm not 100% certain.
Matthew231
The main thing that's killing me with mine is that I can hear it in basically most situations. It's at a pitch where not many things can mask it, if it would just not appear during the day I'd be basically back where I was before this.
Matthew231
I'm actually unsure if I have sound reactivity, or if it is just me noticing the tinnitus in situations with more background noise because it doesn't seem like I'm experiencing symptoms typical of sound reactivity ngl.
EternalRinging
@Matthew231 I initially thought my condition was due to ETD cuz I was in a negation state, given that I didn't exposed myself to loud sounds and according to my research, ear irrigation rarely caused tinnitus. I can make my ear pop a lot, but according to one of the ENT's I have being, that's completely normal. I agree cuz before my tinnitus, I could manipulate the pressure in my ears without thinking much about it.
Matthew231
Yea so I stopped using Flonase and it seems to have calmed down. I can't get into an ENT until mid July at the earliest and my PCP keeps screwing up the referral papers. I'm taking another crack at it on Monday...
Matthew231
Also @EternalRinging did you have any other complications before the irrigation? The reason why I think mine could be ETD related is because my left ear doesn't pop and my hearing is muffled. I also hear like crackling sounds when I chew, all of which are ETD symptoms.
EternalRinging
@Matthew231 I really hope that yours is due to ETD because that at least is treatable, but before the irrigation I didn't really had any complications at all apart from barely hearing anything from my right ear due to block earwax, but the weird thing is that the ringing started in my left ear, the one that got earwax removed first.
EternalRinging
Also, the day my ringing started, my left ear had an immense feeling of fullness and when I managed to unpop my left ear, that's when the ringing started, very instantly.
Matthew231
Hmm that's interesting, I'm sorry you have to deal with this, the past month+ has been hell for me. I can find ways to distract myself but it's just constantly there man.
Matthew231
@EternalRinging I'm also seriously hoping mine is because of ETD because if not then it's probably permanent and that would fucking suck since I'm in Sophomore year at Uni. I already had ETD before it (left ear couldn't pop and was kinda sorta feeling clogged) so I'm hoping the irrigation just kinda irritated it.
Matthew231
Only good thing I suppose is that it could be worse if it was acoustic trauma induced.
Matthew231
Bro I'm kicking myself because if I just hadn't been a fucking idiot and went and got that cleaning all because of some stupid idea that I could improve my hearing without messing anything up. I was on a full 3 ish years with zero ear problems man.
EternalRinging
I'm really sorry for you bro, I just read your old posts and the fact that you're at most 21 years old doesn't make it any better.

Mine started when I was 24 years old and thought it was going to be the end of the world. I really wish somebody could have told me about the existence of this condition, they only emphasize hearing loss.
EternalRinging
And I was always scared as shit because of the possibility of causing my self hearing loss, the main reason why I always was within the safety thresholds of my AirPods in around ~60 dB
EternalRinging
But if knew about tinnitus, I wouldn't even had use these since earwax accumulation thanks to my AirPods indirectly caused mine
EternalRinging
Due to your young age, I really hope yours improved because based on life expectancy, you have more than 60 years ahead of you so it's not easy to deal with the ears eternally ringing for many decades
EternalRinging
With that being said, please try to leave your ear as alone as you can given that it might increases your chance of recovery. Mine has being varying for 13 months but thankfully, I'm now able to get some relief sometimes.Ringing itself in quiet rooms it's not too bad, it's just the necessity to compete with external sounds what makes it worser.
