RunningMan
My ears occasionally pop or click out of the blue. ETD? But I have gotten fluttering in my ear drum a few times - always from a speaking voice, whether in a room or on the computer, like listening to a podcast here. It would stop/start flutter as I stop/start the podcast playback. TTTS? I first heard clicks in early 2019, flutter in early 2022 after tinnitus escalation. How often do you experience these?
Utdmad89
I have this. I think it's hyperacusis.
MadeleineHope
Sounds like pain hyperacusis to me, with the exception of the last symptom... not sure what to make of that!
Mo8409
@Utdmad89 Does yours come and go too? It seems to be inflammatory because when I put ice on it.. it goes away.
Mo8409
@MadsWithT It feels inflammatory though because ice makes it feel better and right now I'm fine. The pain comes and goes. I have a very slight sensitivity to sound but sound doesn't cause me pain.
Mo8409
@RunningMan I experience them daily. It comes and goes. I don't hear clicks though. I just feel the vibration in my ear drum but that isn't 24/7. My symptoms are so weird. I almost wanna say it's inflamed somewhere.
RunningMan
@Mo8409 TTS / TTTS responds to sound, but it's more of a spasm or flutter of the ear drum, which some might call a vibration. But if your vibration is a higher frequency than that, it's probably something else.
MadeleineHope
@Mo8409 Sounds like you may have TTTS, & yes, there's inflammation involved.
Mo8409
What's TTS/TTTS? I'm still new guys! Lol
RunningMan
@Mo8409 Tonic Tensor Tympani Syndrome. There are posts in threads on Tinnitus Talk about it. Various web resources you can search for details and treatment.

@MadeleineHope This is the best pub. yet I've seen so far on this ailment. How it contributes in a domino effect w/ T/H and hearing-loss. Factors that weakens, disrupts or injures the critical middle-ear muscles to inner-ear, whether environmental or man-made creates these tormenting disabling invisible symptoms.
MadeleineHope
@sakrt Yes, me too - it's the most comprehensive I've seen. I still feel it's not quite a complete explanation though for my symptoms (or at least not based what I understand from the article), but I think it's a great foundation. I think a model that also takes into account other research (such as that on the type II afferents) would provide a more complete explanation.
Marina Moon
@Mo8409 I think I have the same thing! My right ear pops with certain noises, like turning on the faucet, opening jammed doors, and somtimes conversations. It also pops when I swallow somtimes. Does that happen to you too?
Marina Moon
If you don't mind me asking, but do you also have pain and clicking in your jaw? I don't know if this is strictly TMJ or a symtpom of hyperacusis.
Tryn2BHopeful
@Marina Moon
Sounds like TMJ.. I don't think jaw clicking is a hyperacusis symptom

MadeleineHope
@Marina Moon I had pre-existing TMJD, but my problem worsened drastically with the onset of my hyperacusis.
Mo8409
@Marina Moon My jaw has clicked like once. My ears feel full, have slight pain and hearing sensitivity but that comes and goes not everyday. My ear drum can sometimes flutter/vibrate to doors shutting, plastic water bottles... The most random stuff. No hearing loss for me but today I'm getting a second hearing test to make sure all is good.
Mo8409
@Marina Moon Sounds like yours is TMJ related. There's therapy to help fix that and could possibly take your T away.
