Well if you don't have inner ear damage then you never got ototoxicity. If that's the case then yes, it's definitely irreversible. If you're not sure go have your ear hairs tested like I just did.
Yes, for me it did. Took a NSAIDs back in 2012 that gifted me intrusive tinnitus. Happened abruptly. It slowly over time reduced to a barely perceptible 'beep' after a year or 2.
Not sure but I would think if Dr Shore's device comes out it could bring your tinnitus down to 0-1/10. Maybe you might need to mix it with anti-epilepsy drugs such as BHV-7000 & XEN-1101 to get rid of tinnitus. Hopefully people with tinnitus don't need to continue taking these meds.
@Ngo13 I didn't have hearing loss, according to my test but how would I know if I have other damage or not? I did an MRI but it was to check for changes in my brain because of how bad my headaches were during with withdrawl of Accutane.
@Lucifer these pharmaceutical drugs aren't out yet, are they? My tinnitus isn't somatic so I wonder the Michigan Device would even work for me but I think it'll be worth a try. Is your T somatic or no? How was your T caused?
@ZFire Wow, it would be nice if it decreased in volume at least. It's pretty darn loud. I'm coming on month 8 since onset as of today. Maybe mine will decrease in time too. Hopefully yours will also, again!!
@Tryn2BHopeful I didn't know anything about any of this until I got it, also. Crazy. Wouldn't it be nice to KNOW whether it will eventually go or not? =|
Not yet. Pfizer/Biohaven BHV-7000 is going to move onto the pivotal phase 2/3 which should start 2H 2023 but not sure how long that trial will last for. The trial might be quick cause Pfizer bought Biohaven. It's a reformulation of Trobalt which should be much safer and more potent which should have a better chance of reducing T to a 0-1/10. My T & H is from acoustic trauma.
@SarahMLFlemmer When you go to the Audiologist ask for all of the extended testing. The University of Michigan took a look at my list I made and my concerns. Mine were ear hair damage from sound or meds, TTTS because my ear drums would flutter at every freaking noise, still do from time to time, extended hearing to verify the meds didn't damage anything and to test my blood vessels near my ear for any diseases.
@SarahMLFlemmer They have a special machine for this and I'm not sure what's it even called but they put a noise in my ear and a machine measured the hairs movement and if the wave was within the box then the hairs were working accordingly. I'm sure there's a correct medically name for this test but it exists.
Find a great Audiologist even if you have to drive far. A correct diagnosis is worth every mile.
So I understand we are saying if there is no physical damage it might be reversible. As ear hairs don't regenerate. I hear the same as always myself... my brain feels like it's misfiring with sound, I never get a sense of sound coming from one ear or the other.
@Tryn2BHopeful Correct. If no permanent damage is done to your hearing system, hairs, or auditory nerve then you have a good chance it will one day fix itself. Unfortunately there's also a small chance it won't. Typically the brain fixing itself and nerves healing is a slow dumb process. In time it will reduce to where you forget you even have it if it decides to stay.
@Tryn2BHopeful Either way you'll get to a point that it will be okay. We're just in the thick of the storm at the moment. So it's hard to see a way out.
@Mo8409 I wonder if Stanford could accurately check these things out for me. I should probably get established with their ENTs actually, because I'm assuming they'll be carrying the Michigan Device at some point.
