Musician earplugs have filters that attenuate frequencies so that music sounds good. I think what you are looking for are more industrial. Target and any pharmacy will have foam earplugs rated up to 32nrr, which is about the highest rating you can get. Or you can order some off of Amazon.
What kind of ear plugs do you currently use? If it's the foam ones, those are the best - both for noise protection & in terms of the occlusion effect. You might just want to experiment with different brands/styles to see which ones feel best.
I say this after experimenting with many different earplugs in addition to foam... even customs! I actually regret getting customs because they don't seem to protect much at all... musician's or solid. My ears still hurt.
And musician's earplugs available online will only offer very little protection. The Loop Quiets are not bad in terms of protection if you choose the right "ends" for your ears, but they have horrible occlusion so are best for situations where you're just lying down or sitting & not speaking.
I like the musicians earplugs for convenience when I don't need maximum protection. I use them driving the car on local errands. But the foams ones provide noticeably better protection, which I'll use on a longer drive.
NIOSH also recommends deducting 70% of the NRR rating if the protection is not earmuffs or foam plugs (non custom musician's would fall into this category).
