Tinnitus Talk Support Forum

He was very interested in my condition (reactive multi-tone tinnitus from SSHL) based on his background and knowledge in sound and pharmacy. He himself has tinnitus but very mild and quiet. Anyway, he talked to two colleagues who work in investigative pharmacy and discussed my condition with them, one being at the Mayo Clinic. He gave me 8 -10 feedback items, including pharmaceuticals and more alternative...

I heard of each one except a muscle relaxer called Dantrolene. This was brought up because it is a muscle relaxer that works at the spinal cord and cerebral levels. But, the most "agreed upon" to try was Keppra in addition to my small Ativan use. The only time I get any relief with my T and R is with Ativan. So, I plan to push for brand name Keppra at my Neurology appointment in mid-September...

I am going for this not only because it was the top recommendation from these few pharmacists, but also based on the anecdotal evidence that it greatly reduced or eliminated reactivity in a handful of cases, and reactivity is my debilitation factor. Just thought to share this.

Thanks for the info @ErikaS my reactivity flares up and for no reason. If that was gone I could live in peace with my T as it can be masked and tuned out but the shimmering beeps throw me. Please keep us updated and I hope you manage to have some luck with it if you can get it prescribed. :D

Thank you @Strawberryblonde I will! There is a guy on Reddit who was debilitated with reactivity/sound sensitive T for over 2 years. lost his high paying job, but said going on Keppra literally saved his life and was the only reason he was able to go back to work and function again. No change in his T, but little to no reactivity. That's what I need to function!

@ErikaS I've done some research on Keppra & it seems the side effects can be quite intense, so just wanted to let you know in case you didn't already ;)

@MadeleineHope Thanks for sharing your research. Every person is different, but it is actually one of the safest ones to try as they use it on infants. I understand it can offset mood, but if it takes my reactivity down substantially, I can try things to combat the mood.
