@4alien they say meds are no good for T. Anxiety same problem. Sadly we need to pick our poison. Also, for the 6 weeks I did not gain much weight. I move a lot. Try to watch what I eat even though it gave me a bit of the munchies. It does make you feel a bit tired. They say it's the safest of the ADs for tinnitus.

@Christiaan - hello - do you stay on 7.5 for sleep only? Do you think it helps a bit with mood at the low dose? I know they say anything less than 15 is not therapeutic. You take it everyday? Still helps you sleep after 2.5 years?
4Grace
@Christiaan - sorry - I am assuming zero impact on T? Did you ever go on and off? Any impact? I feel that no question it improves the mood. Also that my anxiety was worse for my T than the med. who knows. I hate all medication.
kingsfan
15mg an under it is a sedative as it acts as a H1 receptor antagonist. Above 15mg and it acts as an antidepressant. As an antidepressant it typically shows results faster than SSRIs.

I tried it at sedative dosage and it put me out of commission for 24 hours and caused a tinnitus spike as it wore off.

I've been on 3.75 mg for 17 months. I can't sleep without it. My tinnitus has always been very mild and mild. For 3 months it has been horribly high but I can't blame the medicine, I don't know what to do. @Christiaan @kingsfan

@4Grace np, 7,5 mg for sleep, but it helps with mood. It still helps with sleep. It didn't have an impact on my tinnitus, even when I took a pause from this med for a few weeks.
4Grace
@Christiaan When paused for a few were you in 7.5? Did you just stop or wean off? Thanks so much
RunningMan
@4alien2 Does the 3.75 mg still allow you to get enough sleep since your tinnitus worsened? My tinnitus went from mild/moderate to high 19 months ago - still don't sleep well. Ambien sometimes gets me another hour is all. Anxiety hits me hard shortly after waking.

@kingsfan this is how bad it is for me. When I first began mirt. I took 7.5. Made me sleep 3 hours. It has never knocked me out. I wish it did. I'm really up shits creek here.
RunningMan
@kingsfan I've tried some OTC sleep meds, Trazodone, various supplements, THC, CBD/CBN, Hydroxyzine, Nortriptyline. So far, only Ambien (Zolpidem) has knocked me out, but sometimes I'm awake again within an hour if I take it overnight. I would like to try Mirtazapine, Dayvigo, or something else to see if it works any better. But my Dr. has to prescribe.
4Grace
I have Med resistant insomnia I tried most of those. Too many things to sort in my head at night. Lost me peace of mind with this thing.
Stayinghopeful
I did. 15mg for 3-6 months. Was great to help me out initially with tinnitus distress.
RunningMan
@4Grace Did you ever try the dual orexin receptor antagonists (DORAs), like Dayvigo? I haven't, and reviews are mixed, but they work differently for sleep. Insurance coverage could be an issue, also. No AD effect like Mirtazapine, though.
Christiaan
@4alien2 I'm sorry to hear about your tinnitus worsening. I don't know the cause of your worsening, but what have you tried so far? Have you also tried relaxation techniques? Sometimes chronic stress makes the perception of tinnitus much worse (as it does for a lot people on TT).
Christiaan
@4Grace Yes, I only took 7,5 mg. I just stopped taking it in that brief period, no change in perception of tinnitus.

I had a root canal and filling treatment for a tooth 3 months ago. After 5 days it started to get worse, so I can't blame the medicine and I can't sleep without taking it. The despair is so bad. @Christiaan
RunningMan
I had dental work a couple times this year. No root canals but drilling. That loud drilling is terrible, and earplugs don't seem to help because the sound travels directly through the bone. I had an increase in one tone for a while after the second instance.
4alien2
Yes, I believe I did not have nerve damage in the root canal treatment. He used a small drill to clean the tooth and fix the filling. Sounds like he aggravated my tinnitus with bone conduction. @RunningMan
Christiaan
@4alien2 I don't know if it helps but I also experienced complete dispair when I had a worsening in 2020. It took quite some time before it was reduced to a more liveable volume.
