Oh, is it kind of a flutter or thump that feels like it's your eardrum? It could be TTTS. I have that, sometimes in left ear in response to certain sounds (like after continued voices in quiet environment) and sometimes spontaneously in right ear rather than responding to sounds, when it might do it for a while every little bit before stopping.

Tonic tensor tympani syndrome (TTTS) My tinnitus got a lot worse about 20 months ago, had one incident of TTTS back then, then it started again reoccurring occasionally a few months ago.

@RunningMan Yeah unfortunately its a flutter/spasm when I type. Made me remember something that back in Dec 2022, every time I had my headset on my left ear it would spasm, no Tinnitus at the time so I didnt think much of it, I just didnt put my headset on that ear... Maybe this rabbit hole is deeper than I think.

The other thing I get is humming... particularly after driving the worst of it stops within a couple minutes but its pretty awful. Its only ever at my house though... If I drive somewhere else, like work for example its fine...

So, it sounds like you're not experiencing this frequently at this point, even less than me. In the last few days, I think I've had less than 10 of those spontaneous thumps/flutters and no sound reactive ones. So, it's lower on my list of issues than tinnitus, hyperacusis, hearing loss, and insomnia... as long as it doesn't get much worse.

Regarding your humming, I have low frequency tinnitus that I notice when I am in my house when quiet. I never noticed it at work or public, and that's apparently because of the general low frequency background noise in those places. Even a fan running at home would suppress the low frequency tinnitus. Otherwise, if quiet, it's still there and doesn't fade away but can vary in intensity.

@RunningMan I am having a very similar experience with the low frequency humming... its almost bass like. The fan or pretty much most noises suppress it. I seem to pick up on low frequency sounds more though... the high frequency that did bother me no longer does.

of course using the fan ups the reactivity of the high pitched T.

Hmm, we have similar symptoms. I can also feel the tensor tympani muscle twitch when typing on a keyboard (generally, on any sharp sound), but only in one ear. And I also get a low humming sound after driving for a longer time. It always disappears the next morning.

I still find it strange that I can make my T louder by pushing my jaw out or flexing it per say. Now one would think TMJ, but I have no jaw clicking etc... Is it because its flexing that Tympani muscle or whatever in my ear?
