Pretty sure I read that they cut the auditory nerve and T still existed for atleast half of the people
There are stories of doctors that removed the cochlea/ear and patients still had tinnitus. Only worse since now they could not mask it at all. Nightmare. Google it. I did see a video of a girl - Tic Toc - who had a Cochlear implant.
