Watching YouTube videos this am. I was thinking the same thing. They cant be suffering that much. It must not be that loud. They say they now walk into a room and don't hear it? What? That's not possible if you have loud T. The videos can make you feel like shit. Like I'm no strong enough. Makes my family think the same of me.
However I can say that I know a few people with extreme T and live normally. They are a different bread. It can be done. My favourite example is a guy I know that installs tiles for a living. Uses a tile grinder no hearing protection daily. T must be so different between people. Mine is extremely reactive to everything. My ears hurt after exposure to noise. He tells me his ears don't hurt. Thats a big difference.
They say you must not think of it as a threat. Although it might be something more serous for me the problem has never been that it may be a danger. It's the fact that it's annoying as hell. I'm not afraid of it as much as I am annoyed. I cannot relax. Ever.
It's impacted all aspects of my life. All these YouTube stories make zero sense to me. Anyone that says they can get into a quiet room and don't hear it anymore does not have tinnitus. Mine is blasting in a quiet room. There is no distraction that will not make me hear it. Then there are those that say they can continue going to concerts. Then you don't have T. Then again I know a guy that does everything.
