I started taking Remeron at a dose of 2mg-3mg in the beginning, and with time, my body got used to it. At first, I was hesitant to try it, but eventually, I gave in and tried a higher dose of 7mg, which was sufficient. You can even take it up to 15mg; Remeron is generally a safe drug, so there's no need to worry too much about side effects. Remeron is one of the better options.

Have you experienced weight again? How long have you been taking it? At that low dose, is it just helping you sleep?
Supersix
"I only take medication for sleep purposes. It slightly increases my appetite which is a good thing for me as I have lost a lot of weight. For a good night's sleep, a dose of around 2-3 mg is ideal. If you take higher doses, you may feel more hungry, while lower doses won't affect your appetite as much. Taking lower doses of medication can result in fewer side effects.

@RunningMan

Even though im supposed to be taking 7mg-15mg, I feel if I can get good sleep, I won't have depression, which is mild, and my anxiety won't be as bad. Also, Klonopin is much better than lorazepam. im glad I switched, taking a 1/4 of a pill an hour or two before you go to bed. You will start dosing off.

"I don't take Remeron every night. Please don't take it in the middle of the night. If you wake up, start taking it at bedtime. Take 3mg around 9-10 p.m., making you fall asleep easily for 8 hours. You might feel groggy until noon. This effect is temporary, and it will wear off."
RunningMan
Are those 0.5 mg pills of Klonopin? I take 0.5mg Lorazepam some mornings, but that's for anxiety, although I sometimes take it 5AM and may actually sleep some more. I rely on Zolpidem in the middle of the night. That's good you were able to reduce from 7mg Mirtazapine back down to 2-3mg. I thought Mirt was meant to be used daily.

@RunningMan
Im supposed to be taking 7 -15 mg a day, but I can't commit, and im putting myself through misery because of it. Im afraid. that taking the full dose of depression meds might alter my T

"Yes, my doctor prescribes ten pills for me every 30 days, and the dosage is 0.5.mg
RunningMan
0.125 mg Clonazepam is probably the lowest dose I've seen mentioned, maybe excluding weaning off, although my Lorazepam every third day averages even less for potency & much less for half life. So, did your T seem to get louder when you tried the higher dose of Mirtazapine?
Supersix
"When I went to bed with a spike and woke up four hours later, the sound seemed louder. However, I would fall right back to sleep. If you try using Mirtz, you must give it three or four days to get used to it. I'm like you; if I think something is making my situation worse, I don't even try it.
Supersix
@RunningMan Here is my recommended bedtime routine: Take 0.125mg, or you can up to half if you want, of Klonopin 2-3 hours before bed, 2-3mg of Mirtazapine half an hour before bed, and 1-2mg of melatonin. Add in a Swedish massage. You can back off the mirtz several times if you can fall asleep.
RunningMan
I've tried various melatonin doses - it never seems to do anything for me. I have morning anxiety, so that's when I normally take Lorazepam (1 out of 3 days), and zolpidem overnight like 3AM when I can't get back to sleep. I usually fall asleep initially and earlier in the night ok but still wake up too much and have more difficulty sleeping closer to morning, then anxiety comes on after waking.

I don't know what my dr. is willing to prescribe. SSRIs & Nortriptyline didn't work out. He mentioned Buspirone once. When I mentioned Mirtazapine & Amitriptyline in the past, he said they don't really prescribe those anymore. And he said they don't prescribe Pregabalin for anxiety. I never mentioned Gabapentin or different benzos than he prescribed other than Xanax, which he said he doesn't prescribe.

It might be beneficial for you to consider changing your nighttime routine to help improve your sleep and potentially reduce the symptoms of tinnitus. Just curious, do you live in the United States? My doctor is willing to prescribe any medication that I can tolerate, so I'm surprised that your doctor is hesitant to prescribe a medication that could potentially improve your quality of life.
Supersix
If you sleep for 6 hours straight, your anxiety may decrease. Gabapentin at 100mg is a low dose and is well-tolerated, which could be very beneficial for you.

@RunningMan Please try something new for a chance at a better life.

I've also tried Hydroxyzine, Trazodone, OTC sleep meds, CBD, THC, and a bunch of different supplements. Quite a bit of research on sleep. Sleep stories, semi-masking sounds in stereo, all the sleep hygiene stuff.
RunningMan
Yes, I'm in U.S. Dr. only flat out declined prednisone and Xanax, but he has preferred meds, like an SSRI for ADs, and then Buspirone and Lorazepam for other anxiety meds. I haven't been back since Escitalopram left me with stomach aches for months after quitting. Was hoping it would ease.
RunningMan
The dr. doesn't like to start me on more than one medication at once in case I have a side effect. So when I go back, I can probably make one change, like to try Buspirone, which he has actually mentioned before.

I prefer to hear the noise in my head at night rather than mask it with a annoying sound
