  • Hey buddy - I had my appointment with Dr. Stefane Maison at Mass Eye and Ear and signed paperwork to join a future trial for CIL001 if it becomes available. Dr. Maison mentioned hidden hearing loss or cochlear synaptopathy as possible causes of my tinnitus and hyperacusis. Their auditory research lab is top-notch, and I hope they keep getting funding to advance their work in this noisy world.
I used to live in Portland! Sorry to see Wellbutrin caused your issues. After an initial acoustic trauma caused my hyperacusis and tinnitus in the right ear, a drug called Auvelity (with wellbutrin in it) dialed my tinnitus up and exacerbated my hyperacusis terribly. I haven't been the same since those 3 doses. How many doses of wellbutrin did you take?

I know the high pitch squeal all too well. I'm able to mask it fairly easily, but sometimes if the tinnitus is reactive, it is made worse by any sound exposure. I also have the issue of hyperacusis in that right ear and probably some kind of middle ear myoclonus or tonic tensor tympani syndrome that is probably the most debilitating symptom. I'm trying gabapentin for it.

Also headed to Mass Eye and Ear to see one of the top audiologists in the US and maybe get on a list for a clinical trial being that I'm relatively young still at 32. I can't accept that there's no cure for this and might as well devote my life to that cause now. There will only be more young people that have this issue as time goes on.

Hey @AverageJoe12, did you ever make it out to Mass Eye and Ear? If you did, how did it go?
