Tinnitus Talk Support Forum

Hey Bbop. I haven't really been active here lately, which probably is a good sign. My tinnitus has diminished, so my life has improved. The progress has been very slow and at first I thought I was habituating, but now I'm certain the noise has gone down. When I wake up in the morning I can hear it only slightly. Have you noticed any improvement yourself?

It was uncanny reading your story at how alike my symptoms were! Been really tough. Hopefully mine will do the same. So happy for you! Im going on 7 weeks now. Been some improvement the last couple of week. Was yours going up and down a lot? How long ago was your exposure? Made a mistake today. Had a video blast through my earphones accidentally today for a second. So fingers crossed I don't have a set back.
B
Mine almost worse during the day? Was yours the same? What sounds did you hear? Would love to keep in touch. Can you tell me what measures you took to improve yours?
S
Mine went up and down a lot and it still does. My noise exposure was in the 4th of May. And don't worry about the earphones thing. I've had a lot of short loud noise accidents since getting tinnitus and it never caused a permanent increase of the tinnitus.
S
Mine is always low in the morning, but ramps up during the day. In the beginning I had screeching, buzzing, ringing and hissing sounds, but now it's mostly just white noise. I never took any extra measures apart from using earplugs in loud environments. I took some vitamin supplements, but they didn't really help.
S
In any case don't put a timeframe on the tinnitus going away. I'm not sure if mine will even completely resolve. It could take a year, maybe longer. But it wil get better, remember that!
B
Thanks Sven. You're right. Have to keep telling myself that. I'm hearing about 5 different noises. Usually a few a once. Had a hearing test today. Have above average hearing, go figure. So all specialists and audiologists are scratching their heads. Have you had your hearing tested?
B
I'm taking a whole bunch of vitamins as well sceptical whether they're a waste of time as well. But I'm up for anything that could possibly help. Even if it's a bit of a placebo. I work in aviation. So I'm having to rethink my whole career and life at this point. Adding to the stress of everything.
B
I hope it only gets better for you!

Yes, I also had my hearing tested and it showed I had no hearing loss whatsoever. Seems tinnitus is more related to the brain. It's horrible that you may have to give up your job because this. Tinnitus really ruins everything.
S
Do you also have hyperacusis?
B
I think so. I get some pain with noise every now and then, headaches and some dizziness. Was really bad at the start but has improved significantly. How loud is yours? Are you hearing high pitched cricket sounds? I find them the most annoying.
B
Ok definitely have hyperacusis. Happened to me yesterday pretty bad. Do you know what the treatment is for that? Do you have it in one ear or both?
S
It is said that hyperacusis will go away on it's own. Mine is also still there, but not as bad as it used to be. My tinnitus is in both ears, but it seems worse in my left. It used to be loud enough to easily hear it above the tv, but now I can only hear it when I'm in a quiet room.
