  • My ears are almost always full but when I swallow they unclog but then immediately clog again. Also cardio exercises clog them even more.
    MrCrybaby
Hey, I used to have major ear fullness. It was constant for the first few months, but after that it slowly reduced (with time away from noise) and now a year and a half out I find the fullness is much less intense and generally transient after noise exposure.
So I had 5 episodes of bilateral fleeting tinnitus today. Super unusual. I fear something bad is going to happen.
    Diesel
I've had similar. It has indeed freaked me out. In my experience, the "bad" thing has already happened, and it seems more like its part of healing/recovery.
    Stanlex
@Diesel but my current tinnitus started few weeks after I started getting weird fleeting tinnituses. However, this day episodes were much different, so it might indicate some healing, but also it might not.
Is habituation just psychological or it is a real subconscious process making your T sound quieter than it really is?
    Stanlex
@Tezcatlipoca what do you mean by fluctuations? That your tinnitus change on weekly/daily basis or that it changes every second like mine?
    Sentinel
I've heard of people who don't actively hear their T unless they actually recall it or choose to bring it in the forefront of conscious awareness. That's a level I'd live to get to.
    Bill Bauer
Habituation is psychological. However many people's T actually fades, and they get to the "can hear it only in quiet rooms" stage.
My T is not continous, there are intervals of few millis up to a second where my T is not there. So what's the reason it is not always away?
    PortugalTheMan
I really think you could be a success story. I have had this for 4 months, and it has not dropped and is constant.
    Keith Handy
Mine disappears for several seconds when I: remove earplugs; walk into the freezer at work; finish showering; rub my ears; eat crunchy food. It's not practical to always be doing any of these things.
    Should I try curcumin?
    Stanlex
@Stacken77 @PortugalTheMan I just read here on T Talk that curcumin stops body's natural tinnitus healing process. Is it true or bs?
    Tezcatlipoca
@Stanlex if anything it's the opposite
    Stacken77
@Stanlex Opinions differ. I don't know enough on the matter to give an definitive answer. Some on TTalk consider it having otoprotective properties. Curcumin seems to be an antioxidant which reduces inflammation, hence, should be good for damages to hearing. Some have claimed that it is high in Salicylates which indeed is not good for hearing. Though, there seems to be a few anecdotes of it reducing T. Hard to tell
Other diseases come and go. Tinnitus, just comes...
    Tinker Bell
Except for the many incurable autoimmune diseases that never resolve and can worsen over time. Suffering isn't exclusive to tinnitus.
    Stanlex
@Tinker Bell yes that's true. The only worse thing than achronic disease is progressive chronic disease. btw, how bad it must be to have progressively worsening tinnitus.
The most depressing thing is when you return from another physiotherapy session and T is still the same.
    Bill Bauer
There is no magic pill. When T can get better, it takes 1-3 years to fade.
The way how tinnitus changed my personality is brutal. I have had worse illnesses and never was this anxious and depressed.
Many people say they had ring at first and then turned to a hiss. But what if I had hiss since start?
    Stanlex
@Stacken77 Oh I see. The thing is that it is not stable. Its like hISs HiSS ... HIss ... :) Its constantly grabbing my attention
    Bill Bauer
When a ring fades it turns into a hiss. If yours was a hiss to begin with, it means you haven't hurt your ears as much as the other people, so (assuming yours is fading) it should take you less time to get to the "can hear it only in quiet rooms" stage.
    Stanlex
@Bill Bauer yes but the thing is that my T most probably was not caused by noise but rather something unknown and therefore there is no guarantee for me it will ever get better until I find out what is causing it and try to remove it
Listening to headphones even at low volume might cause permanent spikes. Let's treat them by listening to white noise for 2 years 24/7...
    Keith Handy
    I sense sarcasm :)
    Stanlex
@Keith Handy I always thought why listening to music at low volume is bad but listening to white noise is apparently harmless and even helpful when it comes to treating tinnitus. I don't even understand why TRT is good when it takes 2 years doing this therapy but according to dr. Hubbard 98% tinnitus sufferers habituate naturally in 6-18 months. So why would someone spend 6000$ on hearing aids for TRT?
Should I be worried if I have hearing distortions from no apparent reason? I had no noise trauma nor SSNHL. Probably no ETD as well. WTF?
    Tezcatlipoca
You probably have some amount of SNHL or NIHL, have you had an audiogram?
    Stanlex
@Tezcatlipoca no, I only had tuning fork test which was negative. And I also don't subjectively feel any hearing loss, just the T and D.
Anyone knows what is Pontocerebellar angle MRI? Is it the same as Inner ear MRI?
Is it possible to rule out noise induced by doing extended audiogram test?
    Bill Bauer
An audiogram test can Cause tinnitus.

It doesn't really matter whether your T was caused by noise. Once you have T, your ears have been compromised, and now ototoxic medications and noises have a higher chance of making your tinnitus louder.
    Stanlex
@Bill Bauer how does it not matter what is the cause? I think it is a difference if it is caused by some underlying medical condition or noise damage? Why would noise increase someone's tinnitus that is not caused by noise? I suppose it would only add a new tone that is independent on the former wouldn't it?
What really makes me sad is that I have T like I senior rocker, even when I didn't expose myself to any loud noises.
For the love of God, why can't my tinnitus be constant instead of random firing.
    Keith Handy
"Constant" can mean constantly loud or constantly soft. Be precise in what you wish for.
Movie: Bad shooter shoots at a hero. Hero survives and kills the shooter. Reality: Hero dies and shooter gets tinnitus.
Can be non-pulsatile T hissing caused by blood flow problems? Like not enough blood in inner ear.
    Sayeed
    Wondering the same thing
    PortugalTheMan
From the articles I found on the internet, the sound must always be pulsatile.
Yesterday evening my hissing was raging loud, then I took a hot shower, and after few minutes it faded to almost nothing what the heck?
    Diesel
Happens to me all the time
    PortugalTheMan
the secret is that you stay calm :)
    Steph1710
The shower mutes my T for 15 minutes sometimes. I believe it's the same for a lot of people. :)
Do antidepressants work on tinnitus related depression? Will I be a normal human again when they kick in?
    Stanlex
@Sayeed I just started taking it. If it will work, I will take that until I habituate. I just wish something good will happen..
    twa
Let us know how you feel in a few weeks.
    Stanlex
@twa absolutely the same. I quit it cold turkey, saw absolutely no benefit.
I don't know what is fluctuating. My T volume or my perception of it... Wish there was some device that would objectively measure T.
    Stacken77
A "kind of" objective measurement would be to find a consistent sound environment that masks the T. If you feel it has increased, you can stand in that environment and see if you hear it. In my case, if my T is low, my right ear will be completely masked by devices in the kitchen, like the fridge - if I can hear the ring, I know it is spiked.
