  • Three years on and my Dysacusis if anything has worsened ,my hearing aids seem to amplify the distortion .

That's what I kind of feared with dysacusis, thinking hearing aids wouldnt really do anything for it since it sends white noise into the ear to counteract regular tinnitus but we with dysacusis typically can't stand that sound.
Just over 2 years now and i still have Dysacusis .i guess its permanent now .

I also perceive it as coming from the source. Some distortions like the humming from my fan are louder on some days, while on other days, it's lower, or even non-existent.

I must drive you mad ,it does with me although i have almost learnt to cope with it . My audiologist has never heard of dysacusis and my ENT more or less told me it is something i have to live with .

It definitely does, it's the worst ailment ever. But yeah, coping is all we can really do right now. All this modern technology, and yet, hearing medicine is still in the Stone Age.
hey, did u suffer from Hyperacusis?
    Richardfromuk
I still hear the distortion in a different tone ,it has a crackle in the high frequencies i can manage to hear with voices having a lisp effect to them .Some days are better than others but with not much variation . I do have Hyperacusis a little some sounds are more pronounced than others ,my ENT specialist was not very helpful , just said i have to live with it .

ohh ok, how do u manage and how did u get it? also, what do you mean more pronounced and lisp effetc? thank you for answering
    Richardfromuk
Your welcome , I just hope it is a case of getting worse before it gets better ,i have had it for nearly two years now and have been wearing hearing aids for 9 months which do help with my hearing loss but do boost the recruitment i think i have .
I did attend a music concert a few days before this happened which seemed quite loud , i could hear a regular whooshing sound in my right ear three days after .
Wearing hearing aids has helped reduce my distortions and help me hear clearer again

Do you hear distortions from only certain sounds?
    Richardfromuk
@LukeYoung I have the distortions from about 2khz upwards ,its like a crunchy crackle and lately if a TV or radio volume is high enough i hear the sound in my left ear like diplacusis which i had very noticable for about 10 days after it all started just over 2 years ago .
