I get the problem of getting woken up by it too. There's not a huge amount you can do other than to follow all the basic sleep hygiene rules such as no alcohol, caffeine or napping in the day and do exercise to make yourself feel tired at night.

If you read the stories on here you'd believe the cotton swabs can def cause t. Only when jamming in too far. I also think it is possible that overuse of ear plugs could cause tinnitus though I'm unsure of the mechanism behind that- pressure changes in the ears possibly.

I find they are so tight on my head i can only use them for 10 mins tops. I once trapped a nerve in my face when I used them for about 10 mins- could feel horrible tingling down one cheek. Thankfully when I took them off the sensation went way after a few minutes.

There is a grading system in trt. I think it goes from 0-4 where 4 is most severe. I was told I was a 4. The questions weren't on tinnitus level undead but on perceived impact on social functioning etc etc
