    My Journey to Silence

@Lane Sorry for the late response! Make sure your jaw is completely relaxed, back teeth not touching at all. Keep your shoulders relaxed, reduce any anxiety you may have. Easier said than done, I know! Anxiety =Pressure = Tinnitus. If you can see a neuromuscular massage therapist, that was the...

Hi there, So sorry I haven't messaged you back, I didn't receive a notification. It takes a night guard to work, at least 6 months and stay relaxed as much as possible. Yes, go see a upper cervical chiropractor.

    My Journey to Silence

@Melike Noooo, I think it’s the other way around for me. I think the ETD was caused from the TMJD. When my jaw started clicking, the allergies and ETD ensued. The inflammation, in my opnion, causes the ETD and allergies. Once you fix the jaw, all the other issues will go away. I only get ear...

    My Journey to Silence

@Adriel93 Yes, I wore splint during the day and night, even at work. When I would answer the phone, I’d take it out. My boss was really cool about it and he said I looked like a bunny with it! But it really did work for me.

    My Journey to Silence

@kelpiemsp Not anymore!! :) The splint trained my jaw to relax :)

    My Journey to Silence

I took the prednisone 20 mg and tapered down for 2 weeks. My cheeks were puffy way before I took the steroids because of the misaligned jaw. Steroids is just temporary relief. Once the jaw is back in alignment, the inflammation will die down. It’s not immediate, but you will see slight...

    My Journey to Silence

Apparently my back teeth were touching for 23 years of my life... that is a big no no. Clenching = not good for tinnitus.
  8. Kara77

    My Journey to Silence

Go to your general doctor and ask for steroids. Mine did because I explained the only thing that helped was steroids. But it’s a bandaid and it will come back once the steroids leave your system. But it’s immediate relief in my opinion.

    My Journey to Silence

A splint will absolutely help the T and inflammation. Also look into neuromuscular massage therapy. Your teeth should not clench!

    My Journey to Silence

@Shera It did actually. They were constantly stuffed so I could never blow them, it hurt too much.

    My Journey to Silence

@kelpiemsp I am so happy for you! I’m happy I came back too, I honestly feel we should all write a manual/book on why inflammation causes tinnitus so we can help others find treatment. I know we aren’t doctors, but we know our bodies more than anyone else and what medicines/treatments can help...
  13. Kara77

    My Journey to Silence

@Shera Yes, my ETD came from my jaw issues! All that darn inflammation!

    My Journey to Silence

@Shera You’re not on you’re own. You have all of us for support and to help you answer any questions!!
  15. Kara77

    My Journey to Silence

@Shera I hear ya, I honestly didn’t listen to that. Every body is different, everyone’s ears/jaws/etc. are different. I just figured out what worked for me. I was fortunate to find out early that steroids took away the tinnitus so my goal was to eliminate any inflammation. My jaw was so...

    My Journey to Silence

@oolongmonkey Hi, it was called the NTI splint and I also got regular neuromuscular therapy on my jaw too! Try it out. It was expensive, but very much worth it. I stopped clenching too with the splint.
  17. Kara77

    My Journey to Silence

@newbieT Yes, it definitely can. I got very very lucky but I researched and didn’t stop until something worked for me. I hope the same happens for you too!
  18. Kara77

    My Journey to Silence

@newbieT It was a slow fade, I just remember after 2.5 years a noticeable difference after wear my splint for a couple months. Even 1.5 years ago, my ears would ring after a hot shower or when my allergies would act up, but it would return to a low level. End of last year is when my tinnitus...
  19. Kara77

    My Journey to Silence

@newbieT Splint worked just fine for me. I wore the splint almost 24/7. I’m not sure if a nightguard would work as well. I wore a NTI splint for reference. My teeth no longer touch or make a clicking sound. Who knew your teeth weren’t supposed to touch?! I was clenching my teeth for a very long...

    My Journey to Silence

@Lane Thanks, I try. It’s nice to be back and talk with everyone. :) I’ll read your post about OCD, my identical twin suffers as well so maybe I can get some insight.

    My Journey to Silence

@Apolonia I didnt experience hypercusis but I did get ear fullness when I get a bad cold but it goes away if I take an antinflammatory.
  22. Kara77

    My Journey to Silence

@Lane In times of extreme stress, my OCD will pop its ugly head. My brain likes to likes to latch onto noises (similar to my old tinnitus) and play it on repeat. Even when I have no tinnitus, my brain just keeps replaying it for days/weeks. It’s wretched, I have an obsessive personality by...

    My Journey to Silence

@Michellejean It did not, my tinnitus flared only when I was sick or had severe tension in my jaw and neck.

    My Journey to Silence

@Bill Bauer I just went into my walk-in closet with my ear plugs, it's ever so slightly hissing. I had zero reaction because it's at such a bare minimum. Although it's not complete silence, it's barely audible for me. And it's dead quiet in my closet. :)
  25. Kara77

    My Journey to Silence

@Michellejean Thank you so much. At first I didn't want to share my story with people that I meet, but if it can help just one person, I will. I can't tell you how happy that I am to feel normal again. I was a wreck for a long time, the anxiety is still there though. But I am in such a better...

    My Journey to Silence

@Agrajag364 Dental work definitely was the starter for me, plus horrible allergies and maybe an acoustic trauma. Look at all avenues. I believe my tinnitus was caused by multiple factors, like a glass that eventually overflowed and the T settled in. Good luck!
  27. Kara77

    My Journey to Silence

@jimH That is so sweet for you to say that, and I'm happy to hear you are in a better place too. It takes time, that's why I didn't feel confident writing my success today until I felt I was ready. And today, I felt ready to share my story. I didn't want to be one of those people who never...

    My Journey to Silence

@Lane You’ve got it right, keep at it. It literally took me two years to see a difference in my tinnitus. Don’t give up hope, you’ve got this. Keep me in the loop with your progress! :)
  29. Kara77

    My Journey to Silence

@Roy114 You never know, at least getting treatment for your jaw, should help. I did blame the festival for a long time, maybe it was a mix of acoustic trauma, I'll never know for sure. But I know fore sure, that having a misaligned jaw was making my tinnitus worse. See what happens and let me...

    My Journey to Silence

@robHing Thank you so much! Of course, I get flare ups if I get a cold, but nothing like before. But I don't hear it 99% of my day, I don't even think about it.

    My Journey to Silence

@Kelvin I know exactly what you mean. This is why I came back to write my success story. It doesn't happen overnight, it took me 4 years. Radiohead is my all-time favorite band, they played a 3 hour set for us. They didn't play Fake Plastic Trees, but they ended with Karma Police. <3 I never...

@Aaron123 So I talked to my doctor and she said to take the drops... And I have. My ear is feeling better and the redness is subsiding. No increase in T just the same buzzing from the infection. It feels like the buzzing isn't coming from my ears but far away. So weird, I just want this...

    Good Afternoon! And Hi

Hi @James69 In large quantities yes, I took ibuprofen for only two weeks at a time (what my doctor told me to do) just to see if it will help the inflammation, and it did! However, physical/massage therapy worked the best to lower down the T. I don't take ibuprofen anymore, rather curcumin...

@Aaron123 That's what I read too. My right ear is still hissing a little from the ear syringing. I took prednisolone so I'm hoping that inflammation will go down. I called and asked for a different antibiotic.

Can a Pressure Washer Cause Auditory Damage?

Thanks @glynis , My ear is also in a lot of pain. I knew something was wrong, this sound is very different from my low level hiss. Just took two steroids, I hope it will settle down too. Thank you for reassuring me.

Can a Pressure Washer Cause Auditory Damage?

@glynis The loud echo I had turned out be an ear infection, I did indeed have a ton of wax. My reg T hasn't been so bad at all (gone really!) and this echo is unbelieable. I had my ears syringed to get rid of the wax but the noise is still there. They gave me ear drops and steroids. I am...

    Good Afternoon! And Hi

Hi @RoeB , I have TMJ induced Tinnitus and Flexeril really helped me too. It calms the nerves in your jaw so the inflammation dies down. However, my dentist says that Flexeril isn't a lifetime cure. You must find the root of the problem. For me, it's a misaligned jaw. I've been going to...

Can a Pressure Washer Cause Auditory Damage?

Hi @Weswhat, It's never too late. My T was caused by my wisdom teeth removal close to 3 years ago, but I didnt have T till last year. The only symptom I had was a clicking jaw. And it took a very long time for doctors to even diagnose me. All I knew back then is that steroids took it away...

Thanks @Richard zurowski I hope one day I'll get to a point where I don't shriek when I hear a loud ambulance/motorcycle/lawn mower. I'm not the person who I used to be before T, but I'm getting there. Even with my ringing low, I'm still so cautious because of the "what ifs!" Love your...

Can a Pressure Washer Cause Auditory Damage?

@mohamad-m I think its more paranoia since I didn't have any plugs with me and I was caught off guard! Those pressure washer thingys seemed loud but I think my anxiety makes it 10x louder than it really is. Thanks for your response!

Can a Pressure Washer Cause Auditory Damage?

@Sailboardman Thanks for the reply. It's pretty stressful getting anxious over everyday sounds. The last thing I want to do is cause any damage. Thank you, I just needed the reassurance that I can jog in my neighborhood without feeling stressed.

Can a Pressure Washer Cause Auditory Damage?

Hi all, I have been doing so well lately, my T has really improved from a ringing to a soft hiss. My T is from inflammation btw. However, while I was jogging in my neighborhood, someone was pressure washing their driveway. I was only exposed maybe 5s to it. However, I feel like I can still hear...

It's just a light hiss... I have to plug my ears to hear it! When my nose drains (I know gross) it's gone!! Actually my jaw doctor said not to wear the splint anymore bc I don't have a structural issue is fixed and it would do more harm than good (just the muscle relaxers when I need to). I actually lost a half inch because my neck started to move forward (I think when one thing is out of place, the...
