I don't see why the same thing can't be done with hair cells. It's just the eye is so much more accessible to invasive procedures than the kernel sized cochlea hidden in a shell of bone.

I've been on a low dose (25mg) of amitriptyline to aid in sleeping for many years, about four years before onset. My tinnitus is most likely caused from acoustic trauma. I did go off of it for a little while to see if it would lessen the volume but didn't see any difference.

I went to three doctors but they told me they couldn't do anything. My objective tinnitus springs to life occasionally when my allergies get bad, or at least that's what I figure is causing it. It'll go away in a few days or even a month on some occasions. Of course the subjective is constant.
