Stem Cell Transplant Treatment as a Reboot

As a person of the great white north, I've always feared the dreaded MS. Nice to see we have an upcoming treatment for it. Though we've known for years a bone marrow transplant would cure it, the FDA considers that too drastic and would rather see people lose their legs, bladder and vision...

Autifony Therapeutics Phase II Study for AUT00063, for the Treatment of Hearing Loss and Tinnitus

I believe that's kind of the idea. Remember the days when you could get a "stuck pixel" on your monitor and you ran a program that basically over worked your screen until that pixel finally shut off. I think it's like that.

Autifony Therapeutics Phase II Study for AUT00063, for the Treatment of Hearing Loss and Tinnitus

It's good to see such positive results. Maybe with further prolonged exposure or some more tweaking of the drug we'll see some even better results.

    HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) Surgery

I'd much rather see this technology flourish for Parkinson's, Tremors, and inoperable brain tumors than tinnitus. This could possibly be a miracle for brain surgeries that can't be operable through the knife.

ATA-Funded Research: Making an Impact and Moving Towards a Cure

This really is a huge problem. You can research anything and find an investor looking for a tax break. We need research looking for curative results, not nonsense like how exercising helps one cope with tinnitus. How about a proactive approach and trying to treat the condition. Useless...

They're probably finding it hard to find participants with their exact criteria. I think only people who suffer from artillery explosions lose that much hearing in such a short time and chances are only one in ten of them actually get permanent tinnitus.

BTA Refuses to Fund Drug and Stem Cell Research

Even if this drug cures tinnitus immediately, it still has to be run though a placebo-controlled, blind study. You have to prove to the medical community, especially the FDA that your drug is effective in a controlled environment. This is done by utilizing a blind study on patients with unbiased...

BTA Refuses to Fund Drug and Stem Cell Research

These stupid foundations only exist to accept donations to fund lame quick-fix gimmick and to, of course, skim some of that sweet money off the top. Stem Cell Trial Cures Macular Degeneration (Not Tinnitus Related)

I don't see why the same thing can't be done with hair cells. It's just the eye is so much more accessible to invasive procedures than the kernel sized cochlea hidden in a shell of bone.

Efficacy of Amitriptyline in the Treatment of Subjective Tinnitus

I've been on a low dose (25mg) of amitriptyline to aid in sleeping for many years, about four years before onset. My tinnitus is most likely caused from acoustic trauma. I did go off of it for a little while to see if it would lessen the volume but didn't see any difference.

I highly agree. If you want to invest, invest in this newer treatment. Auris had it's time researching and applying their drug with limited results. Interesting story of bilateral tinnitus development

From my understanding when people lose output from one ear the other often rings. Reason being the working ear actually increases output to the brain to compensate but this puts stress on the auditory nerve and in return, ringing of the ear. Someone posted that explanation here, I believe...

    New Theory of Hearing/Loss/Tinnitus?

I always assumed if a neuron dies it ceases to produce Isn't tinnitus caused by over excited neurons and not dead ones? If a neuron is dead it can't produce a tone. Anyway, a drug or procedure to silence over active neurons is where I want to see research headed. Yeah it's great to restore...

Yeah the fact remains we're in the minority of people who's brains don't plasticize properly to deal with loss of input from the ear. Frankly, I'd much rather they find a procedure to calm the neuron hyperactivity for the simple reason we're still prone to hearing loss as we age or...
