Do Any of You Live by Yourself with Hyperacusis?

I have a pair of the Peltor earmuffs as well, they are my preferred "everyday" protection, though they don't offer as much noise reduction as the foam earplugs.

Otonomy OTO-413 — Treatment of Hidden Hearing Loss

I have wondered about the experience of having the IT injected gel and if that might qualify as an "adverse effect" for some people. I have had multiple IT injections over the past year and they are never fun, but they also aren't that bad. However, I have always gotten prednisone or...

Otonomy OTO-413 — Treatment of Hidden Hearing Loss

My understanding is that Otonomy believes that their delivery method is superior to something like FX-322. Is there any information released anywhere on how deep into the cochlea they believe that their drugs can be effective? Basically, do we know if there is a lower frequency threshold at...

Frequency Therapeutics — Hearing Loss Regeneration

Seems very unlikely. The part of your cochlea that FX-322 will help is is different and distinct from the part that regulates balance.

Frequency Therapeutics — Hearing Loss Regeneration

I can't really answer your other questions, but I have researched this one so I'll take a stab at answering it. This would obviously rely on what the individual's extended audiograms looked like before being treated with FX-322. If the hearing loss was the result of age - then I believe that...

Otonomy OTO-413 — Treatment of Hidden Hearing Loss

Thanks for the explanation. That was a very clear and concise way to put it. That isn't the part that I found hard to follow though. (I actually work designing audio equipment so dB's and logarithmic scales aren't the part I was having trouble with). Rereading the post, I think it's just more an...

    Migraines and Chronic Ear/Vestibular Troubles

Sorry to necrobump an old thread but wondering if there is anyone here who is still in the same boat? Been suffering with cochlear migraines (similar to vestibular migraines but mainly affecting hearing rather than balance) for about a year now, and would like to hear of any other people's...

Frequency Therapeutics — Hearing Loss Regeneration

When my ears worked I didn't have tinnitus. Now that they don't - I do. There's lots of examples of improvements to hearing helping to reduce tinnitus, no reason to think this would be different.

Frequency Therapeutics — Hearing Loss Regeneration

I really think any one who is overly worried about the IT injection part of this is blowing it way out of proportion. It does look and seems kind of scary, (I've had it done 6 times now by 3 different doctors) but it is very much just like Jack V describes - a bit of numbing gel on the eardrum...

    Aldosterone and Hearing

I'm all for trying anything that might help (assuming it doesn't have more than minor adverse effects) but the underlying causes of high frequency (age related) hearing loss and low frequency hearing loss are so different and distinct, do you really think this has much hope of helping? Either...

    Sound Pharmaceuticals (SPI-5557 & SPI-1005)

The results of the trials showed good results in reducing tinnitus and increased low frequency hearing response in patients with Meniere's Disease. It's not aiming to have the same type of effect that something like FX-322 is, but there are more conditions than just Meniere's that it can...

Otonomy OTO-313 — Treatment of Tinnitus

I certainly think that for the majority of people, restoring hearing will hopefully cure or at least greatly reduce their tinnitus issues/suffering. However, I think it is a bit short sighted to think of these other avenues of treatment as a "dead end", there are a large number of people whose...

Thanks for that info, I'm very interested in SPI-1005. I haven't been diagnosed with Meniere's - but I share a lot of the same symptoms (episodic intense tinnitus, fluctuating hearing loss). The potential connection to viral inflammation is really interesting. Do you have a link where I could...

Unfortunately it's not that massive. Most us have probably never even been able to hear close to 20 kHz (20,000). Certainly not too much past age 16 or so. There really isn't too much information up there anyway. You can probably cut out most sound above about 16 kHz without really noticing...

Impact of Acamprosate on Chronic Tinnitus: A Randomized-Controlled Trial

I have now looked up 2 additional studies that also found that acamprosate seemed to lower tinnitus levels while being relatively safe. Is there something I am missing here? Is there some reason that this isn't being prescribed (even off label)? This is the first I have ever heard of it.

Thats interesting. Did she ask how ( or why) the doctor came to that conclusion? Did she have any other symptoms that might have pointed in that direction? I don't know if there are any tests that can give a "positive" diagnosis, and I was skeptical at first but my symptoms have responded well to the medication that the doctor prescribed, and after reading the (little) information I have been able to find about it, I think the diagnosis fits. I...

As long as you can successfully clear your eustachian tube, I don't think it's a problem. Frequency Therapeutics — Hearing Loss Regeneration

Interesting but probably just coincidental, because we hear frequencies on a logarithmic curve - so for every increase of one octave you double the amount of frequencies in that band. For example 1 kHz to 2 kHz is a 1000 Hz difference, but from 2 kHz to 4 kHz is a 2000 Hz difference etc... I'm...

Frequency Therapeutics — Hearing Loss Regeneration

Oddly enough, noise induced hearing loss doesn't necessarily happen in the frequencies with the most amplitude. It has a lot to do with the mechanics of the ear and how the energy is transferred across mediums, but noise induced hearing loss usually shows up between 3 kHz and 6 kHz. 500 Hz is...

MRI Detection of Endolymphatic Hydrops in Meniere's Disease

I wasn't the one that looked at the results or ordered the test, but the Dr. who ordered it is a leading specialist involving inner ear disorders, so I assume that he thought it was a good image. I did not (at the time of the MRI) have E. Hydrops. I have almost all of the symptoms of menieres...

MRI Detection of Endolymphatic Hydrops in Meniere's Disease

You can get an MRI done to look for E Hydrops without having the eardrum perforated. It does take longer than the 8 minutes in the linked study though. I had one done last year. The contrast agent is injected in the arm, and the MRI took about 30 minutes.

It seems very likely. Did you watch the video posted a few pages back, showing the speech in noise tests? It was some pretty impressive gains. I would love to see an audiogram up to 16 kHz or so, my understanding is that based on where they are injecting it, high frequencies will be most...

Big Five Personality Traits Are Associated with Tinnitus Improvement Over Time

Severe Conductive Hearing Loss from Middle Ear Issues — Can I Get Hearing Back?

When you do an audiogram they will (usually) measure both "in air" hearing and bone conduction. If your "in air" hearing is bad but your bone conduction hearing is ok, then this indicates that the problem lies somewhere between the ear canal and the cochlea, but that the cochlea/inner ear is...

Severe Conductive Hearing Loss from Middle Ear Issues — Can I Get Hearing Back?

Hearing aids or bone conduction hearing devices should be able to help with both the hearing and tinnitus. As someone who suffers from hearing loss < 1 kHz, my hope is that targeted drug delivery won't be too far behind a functional drug. If not... I'd be willing to undergo surgical methods (if available) to cram some FX-322 (or something else that works) deep into my apex.
