Wife Wants to Take Me to a Movie — Explaining Tinnitus and Hyperacusis to Family

While I am really glad your symptoms ameliorated considerably for the past months, I must say, explaining hyperacusis or tinnitus to our loved ones may seem quite difficult. People with healthy ears do not understand the sound sensitivity it creates for us. I agree that you should not be...

Anyone Else Have Ultra-High Frequency Tinnitus?

@Poseidon65, I have this and I tried to do a gentle valsalva for my ear fullness. Big mistake. It's the reason why my tinnitus is on the extreme side now.

Here to Help Others — I've Learned Things to Hibernate My Tinnitus for Hours at a Time

@one-light It's good to have you here! Wow 10 years with this. Your positivity and strength are so admirable! By the way I love Shih Tzu, in fact I owned one for 12 years! They make great companions indeed. Welcome!

Voluntary Assisted Dying / Euthanasia for Tinnitus Patients (Pegasos Swiss Association, Switzerland)

I had no knowledge of Pegasos until now. If things worsen for me, I'll contact them. Maybe I can live with tinnitus but the distortions I have, I can't ever get used to them. I used to breathe music and I've lost everything. This is not living.

    Suicidal

My family doesn`t understand what I`m going through. I feel so far from everyone. Almost like living in a different world. How can I be happy with a screaming tinnitus in my ears, when music sounds so distorted, I can`t even watch a movie. I only live because I can`t die.

Hearing Sensitivity (Hyperacusis) to Percussion Instruments

@BrOKeN_1, low volume doesn't seem to help. As long as there are percussion instruments in songs, I get this really bad sensitivity... I am not able to listen to music due to my dysacusis anyways. Everything sounds like a broken speaker but sometimes I play a part of a song to see if there is...

    Suicidal

I too feel like I am one step away from giving up. But the thought that maybe in a few years things will be alright just won't let me. If there is something I have understood, it is that healing will NOT happen overnight. My ears helped me for many years of my life, it's my turn to help them, or...

Hearing Sensitivity (Hyperacusis) to Percussion Instruments

Anyone here who has sensitivity to percussion instruments and got better in time? I know this is hyperacusis, but I'm just worried it will not go away because of the cumulative noise exposure. Percussion instruments seem too loud and don't sound normal like they used to. Feels like frequencies...

People with Dysacusis, Distortions or Loudness Hyperacusis — Describe Your Symptoms!

@Pierce Wolf You might get different opinions on whether earplugs are a good idea or not. I believe balance is key. I would suggest do not overprotect your ears. Just avoid things that seem 'too much to take' for your ears if that makes sense. Plug up only when necessary. If waves makes it...

People with Dysacusis, Distortions or Loudness Hyperacusis — Describe Your Symptoms!

@Pierce Wolf He got it after a concert so it's similar to your situation. And it's actually a good thing because cumulative (like me) takes much longer to get better from what I know. He was really committed to get back to normal and avoided anything loud for 1 year and even now he is careful...

Nothing to say sorry about. Yes and reactive tinnitus too. He had a lot of pain from the hyperacusis and mentioned the bus sound was excruciating. He made a complete recovery and is well now. His case was noise induced.

People with Dysacusis, Distortions or Loudness Hyperacusis — Describe Your Symptoms!

@Ava Lugo I don't think I can cope with it better than anyone else here. I have moments when I think why life became so difficult for me while nobody around me has to deal with this. But I think I can pull through in a world which is hard to live in as long as it’s not a world I don’t want to...

People with Dysacusis, Distortions or Loudness Hyperacusis — Describe Your Symptoms!

@Ava Lugo, has your symptoms changed even slightly over time? Yes, besides the broken speaker effect I still struggle with reactive tinnitus and have permanent tinnitus in left ear. I feel really sorry you have to deal with this. I am 1 year into it and I still have hope it will get better...

People with Dysacusis, Distortions or Loudness Hyperacusis — Describe Your Symptoms!

@__nico__ Ears just take a looong time to heal. I will give my hearing a break before trying any medicine. Just make sure whatever you will get doesn't have high chances of side effects. I talked to a guy with reactive tinnitus and distortions and he said in a year things got back 100% to normal...
