Keflex is mentioned on American Tinnitus Association's Ototoxic Drugs list. Augmentin is not. I would go with Augmentin.

I am sorry that that had happened to you. One time I took Augmentin, and it gave me a huge spike. It is my understanding that Augmentin is a mixture of Amoxicillin and something else that's ototoxic.

Really sorry to hear that. Tinnitus makes standard medication seem like a game of Russian roulette. I’m on a cocktail of antibiotics. Luckily I’ve not had a spike (yet). I’ll finish the Augmentin tomorrow & Metronidazole in 9 days.

I've had sinusitis for 5 weeks, so my doctor gave me Prednisone which I finish tomorrow after just 7 days. He gave me Augmentin "just in case" the Prednisone doesn't help. So far, I still have sinusitis, and am a bit worried to take the Augmentin.

It is most likely Augmentin. https://www.tinnitustalk.com/search/3011326/?q=augmentin&o=relevance Augmentin = amoxicillin (the least ototoxic antibiotic) + clavulinic acid. It appears that clavulinic acid is ototoxic. You might consider asking your doctor for a prescription for amoxicillin.

There is a ton of conflicting info out there however Amoxicillin is supposed to be one of the safest antibiotics out there for ear health. Here is a list of meds from the ATA that can be considered ototoxic...

Augmentin is safer, that's for sure.

How do we gauge what antibiotics are most to least ototoxic? Do you have a list? I want to have a list in case I need them in future.

Well I can vouch for amoxcilin/augmentin duo - they aren't mentioned as being ototoxic afaik and I was on augmentin duo recently for an infection, was all good!

If you hadn’t noticed any changes yet, hopefully everything will be fine! And yes, I am so hesitant to take any new oral medication because of the risk of the tinnitus getting worse, let alone being worried about loud noise exposure anytime I go anywhere. It’s so hard to live like this.
