    Hearing Aids

This is pretty exciting: https://www.apple.com/airpods-pro/hearing-health/ Apple is releasing earbuds that double as clinical-grade hearing aids. They offer hearing protection, sound amplification, and background noise control. This seems like a great product for tinnitus sufferers. I currently...

Investigation of the Effectiveness of Sound Enrichment in the Treatment of Tinnitus Due to Hearing Loss

I think it's white noise passed through two band-pass filters: one at the tinnitus frequency and one at the hearing loss frequency. Then, somehow, they are mixed back together to create one sound. I'm not an audio engineer, but I dabble. So I guess we would need to find out from the study: How...

Investigation of the Effectiveness of Sound Enrichment in the Treatment of Tinnitus Due to Hearing Loss

The study follows a specific protocol for generating sound using white noise, which is then processed through two band-pass filters: one for the tinnitus frequency and another for the hearing loss frequencies. You would need someone with audio engineering skills to create this type of sound. I...

Investigation of the Effectiveness of Sound Enrichment in the Treatment of Tinnitus Due to Hearing Loss

Reading the paper, it seemed like creating a specific sound for each person is somewhat of an audio engineering challenge. It requires various filters and audio mixing techniques. I’d be very interested in trying this at home, but I’m not sure my relatively basic audio engineering skills are up...

MDMA (a Component of Ecstacy) Potential for the Treatment of Tinnitus

From what I have read, MDMA is not a good candidate for microdosing. Unlike other hallucinogens, such as mushrooms or LSD, MDMA has no noticeable effect until it reaches a certain threshold dose, at which point it produces a significant impact. In contrast, very low doses of LSD or mushrooms...

Hearing Aids with Notch Therapy — Post Your Experience!

There seems to be some confusion in this thread about what Notch Therapy actually is. As I understand it, the core concept involves reducing the volume of the audio signal reaching your ear, but only for the frequencies around your tinnitus. For example, my tinnitus is around 4300 Hz. To apply...

NeuroMed Tinnitus Program — Founded by Dr. Hamid Djalilian

Is it just me, or does this study seem poorly designed? There's no control group, a small sample size, and the outcome measures are subjective. It seems like it would have been useful to at least modify the regimen for different subsets of participants. For example, Group A could follow the...

Repeated Bilateral Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation over Auditory Cortex for Tinnitus

I've done the initial consultation. It was via Zoom and cost $250. They have not treated tinnitus before, but they are familiar with the studies and are willing to try it with me. I'm currently in the process of ordering the headset from them. It's all virtual. I am on the US West Coast, which...

Repeated Bilateral Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation over Auditory Cortex for Tinnitus

It sounds like you can just buy a device, strap it to your head, and zap yourself. But I'm personally a little wary of doing that with as little medical knowledge as I have. I found this program. I'm doing a screening call with them later in the month. They lease you a device and walk you...

UMich has a program called Innovation Partnerships, which helps researchers take their products to market. Auricle is a part of that program. Second Acoustic Trauma: Seeking Advice on Ear Fullness/Pressure

Yes, I still get tickling and the occasional ache inside my ear canal. I wonder if it is the cochlea slowly healing over time? It feels like it could be. I did a pretty extensive HBOT, and like anything else, it's so hard to say if it helped. I don't know if I'd be worse today without it. I...

Second Acoustic Trauma: Seeking Advice on Ear Fullness/Pressure

I was diagnosed with "otitis media with effusion" (which just means fluid behind the ear drums) after my acoustic trauma. The doctor absolutely misdiagnosed it first as an ear infection and then a sinus infection. I later saw an ENT who told me that acoustic trauma can definitely cause fluid...

Pain in Middle Ear — Not Hyperacusis

I have severe unilateral tinnitus from acoustic trauma, which started about 10 months back. I often feel a dull ache in my ear canal, about an inch in. It usually corresponds with tinnitus spikes. It's unrelated to noise, so I don't think I have what folks call hyperacusis or noxacusis. Does...

I dont think I've seen any benefit from using it pretty regularly (every day for a few months). I started to get a little worried it might even be making things worse...just a worry, not sure of this. But since I didn't see much benefit and had that worry I've mostly stopped using it.

New University of Michigan Tinnitus Discovery — Signal Timing

Dr. Shore was asked this question in the Q&A (about whether she thought continued use beyond the 6-week duration the study tested would provide continued reduction). She said she didn't know, but the study showed a downward trend during the whole duration, and she hazarded a guess such a trend...

New University of Michigan Tinnitus Discovery — Signal Timing

During the webinar, Dr. Shore shared that a 7-ms delay between the somatic and electrical stimulus would excite the neurons, whereas a 10-ms delay would depress them (depressing is what you want for tinnitus). I'm not sure I have those numbers exactly right, but they were in that range. I was...

    Tinnitus Retraining Therapy

Massive Tinnitus Spike from CPAP Machine

Hi all, I developed tinnitus from noise exposure in October 2023. Over the last few months, I had finally started to habituate a bit; I would sometimes forget about it for about 30 minutes at a time. Last week, I got a CPAP machine. The doctor accidentally set it to max air pressure. I wore it...

Hyperacusis Is Not Always Permanent: After 6 Months of CBT and TRT, I'm Back to My Noisy Job

Yeah, that's my understanding as well. They are just teaching you techniques. There's no patient/therapist bond or rapport component in CBT. TRT would be awkward to do online because they need to do the tone tests and re-program your in-ear masker (if that's what you are using).

Xanax drops the volume of my tinnitus significantly. It goes from something I can hear over almost anything to being something I have to actually listen for in a moderately quiet room. I don't want to take it long term though because it makes me spacey and the fact that you can become addicted...
