Tinnitus Spike from Caulking Gun: Can You Believe It?

That sound was short and not amplified (as in; not a speaker, not an explosion), so 99,99% chance spike is caused by the stress/worry, and your brain therefor focusing on your T as if it was a threat. The experienced loudness will subside.

How to Cope with Prolonged Periods of Time at Home Due to Tinnitus Spike?

Do go outside, but with earplugs. Those made of foam will lower a 110 dB sound to around 80 dB. You're safe at 80 dB, especially since a siren or horn will only last for a few seconds.

Tinnitus Spike from Snapping a Tree Branch — Possibility of It Being Permanent?

Your spike most probably is psychological only, since your brain filters out sound as a serious threat, and this sound stood out, your brain got scared, triggered fight/flight. Therefor the effect is kind the opposite of habituation. I.e. your brain will notice your tinnitus more... for some...

    Healthy vs Damaged Ear

So, the general understanding of how long a human´s maximum exposure (time/loudness) may be, to avoid risk of hearing damage, is not to be taken as valid for one with (noise induced) tinnitus? I´ve always understood it as exposure per 24 H, and then your ears/cells get rested, and are ready to...

Change in Tinnitus Character without Reason, Anyone?

Change in Tinnitus Character without Reason, Anyone?

So, short story; had noise induced tinnitus for 17 years without any noticeable changes, then had it majorly worsen after a long night out, with badly fitted earplugs (4 years ago). Then, been using extremely good earplugs, etc. (Non-hollow, custom mold silicon, SNR should be over 30 dB). Had no...

How Long Between Trauma and Start of Tinnitus?

Hi, I wonder about symtoms after experiencing a loud bang (firecracker). I did'nt notice any symptoms in connection, more than of course serious anxiety. Now it's over 72 hours since exposure, and I think my T is louder, i.e. harder to mask, but when plugging my ears I can't tell if there is a...

How Loud Is a Firecracker Really?

True. Well, I guess it matters for us; trying to make choices regarding protection, exposure, and dealing with the fact that what we perceive as very loud, possibly maybe is not that loud, even though still quite risky, since most of us probably have: 1. A bit more sensitive hearing cells than...

How Loud Is a Firecracker Really?

Yes. I guess what keeps me calm is that I did´nt notice any changes as of yet. This opposed to when my T first appeared 16 years ago, from a firecracker exploding very close to me, like 0.5 meters. That time my ears were crackeling/tingling when people tried to talk to me... Horrible. This...

Is It Possible to Get Hearing Damage from Loud Bass?

This is really confusing me... Example, the tool and hearing protector discussed above: 100 dB - 25dB = 75 dB at the ear. For professional applications, when the noise level is known in dB(A), OSHA advises that the NRR be reduced by 7 dB: Example: 100dB(A) - (25 - 7)dB = 82dB at the ear...
