    Best Earplugs?

Thanks, good suggestion. Don’t plan on being a regular shooter since getting tinnitus :-)

    Best Earplugs?

Thanks - wondering about some I’ve heard about (EAR defense for example) that actually use some type of filter. I’ve been using foam and silicone which do a fine job volume reduction wise, but are very weak on preserving clarity. I’m getting lots of ads on my feed for musician/high fidelity...

    Best Earplugs?

Hi all, Trying to find out what is the latest and greatest in March of 2019! I’ve determined not to live in a bubble, but that does not mean I want to be unwise either. If I’m really in louder (unsafe for prolonged exposure) environments I will currently pop in some foam plugs with the highest...

New Product — Helmet Angel — for Cyclists with Tinnitus!

Okay, I’ve got to get back on the bike (outside). For mountain biking I’m not worried about wind noise (I doubt my sub 10mph average rides are hurting me - you can tell I climb more than downhill). But I want to get back in the road and need to pull the trigger on something. I’ve read that the...

Very true @gorzakus, the past is fixed. All we have is the present and the future.

New Product — Helmet Angel — for Cyclists with Tinnitus!

@gorzakus, thanks for the encouragement. With the lack of sleep, getting on the trainer is a challenge for sure, but I’m praying this phase of sleeplessness will soon pass.

New Product — Helmet Angel — for Cyclists with Tinnitus!

When I did a lot of triathlon I used the Giro Advantage 2, total ear coverage, but not what you want for a 4 hour group ride in the mountains. I honestly never thought about wind noise before. I’ve cycled for a long time, wonder if that could have contributed to my issues?

New Product — Helmet Angel — for Cyclists with Tinnitus!

Do the cat ears get sweaty in the Summer? I ride a lot in the heat, lots of climbing, and I was afraid that they might act like sponges. I just got back on the trainer for the first time this year. I wore ear plugs out of fear/caution. I have a kickr which is pretty quiet, but also run a fan...

Can Someone Explain to a Newbie What Habituation Is and “Ideally” How It Works?

Thanks @Hazel, I’ve been doing the opposite I think. I’ve been so focused on trying to keep notes for my doc visits I’ve been taking notes daily. Louder today, more manageable at this hour, higher pitches at 7 o’clock, etc, etc. In trying to be clinical and proactive, I wonder if I’m being...

Can Someone Explain to a Newbie What Habituation Is and “Ideally” How It Works?

@Michael Leigh and @coffee_girl, thank you both. Michael, I really found the info in that post helpful. Thanks for pulling it up for me (and for not berating me for not finding it myself :-) ). It is greatly appreciated. Coffee_Girl, also good sound advice. I used to be incredibly active. After...

Thanks for the scam warning. Man, try NOT to focus on the sound, there is a challenge right there!

Can Someone Explain to a Newbie What Habituation Is and “Ideally” How It Works?

Thankfully, although I’ve been diagnosed with some borderline mild/moderate hearing loss, I haven’t felt a real impact from that part yet. Maybe it’s because of the higher frequency loss, or because the ringing is SO much more noticeable, but I don’t get that full ear sensation I hear about (at...

Can Someone Explain to a Newbie What Habituation Is and “Ideally” How It Works?

Gotcha, and I’ve done construction around swine, do I follow the concept of nose-blind well, but are there any how-to things to practice? Is it supposed to just happen on its own. Trust me, I didn’t try to learn to accept the pig smell, either it just happened or my olfactory senses left in...

It’s all in the title to my thread, “Can someone explain to a newbie what habituation is and “ideally” how it works?” Thanks!

Wow. Lot’s of pages indeed! Is there anything resembling an ETA to market? Oops, just saw the answer in a previous response - so 2019, maybe as soon as September, but in Ireland?

    Hospital ER for Steroid Injections?

Rojo, do you have a regular family doc, ENT, or nurse you could reach out to today? I know the “not knowing” is one of the hardest parts. Trying to help you think through the options.

An Encouragement and Taking My Shower with Me

Mitchel, I hope it helps you too! White Noise Lite is on the App Store. The app is super simple and will build the loop for you, just takes a handful of seconds. None of the standard white noises worked for me, but my own shower is the best. I play it a little louder than I would the other white...

An Encouragement and Taking My Shower with Me

Thank you linearb, I really appreciate the feedback. I actually appreciate any feedback. It seems like folks who have never dealt with it just don’t understand how jarring it can be (three weeks ago I was one of those people). I’m guessing like any trauma there are stages. I’m currently dealing...

An Encouragement and Taking My Shower with Me

1.) This is still so fresh to me. Just over 2 weeks in. Still not able to sleep, even with a sound machine, nothing seems to cut through the high pitched tone. Nothing except one thing. The shower. I’ve used up insane amounts of water just standing there. In the shower, things sound normal. It...

Falling Asleep to Milder Tinnitus — Waking Up to Very Loud Tinnitus — Thoughts & Experiences?

I’m very new to all of this, but only a little over 2 weeks in. I can relate to the loud early AM T part. I’ve tried falling asleep both with and without white noise, but the result is much the same. I may be able to drift off to sleep, but I’m awakened in the middle of the night and my T is...

Noise Induced Hearing Loss/Tinnitus and Prednisone — Helpful or Harmful?

I received a 6 day pack. A total of 21 tablets, 5mg each. Day one would be a 30mg does, and then drop the dose 5mg each day. I’m in knots. It takes almost a month to get in to see an ENT around here, at which point I think it would be too late. How are folks getting hooked up with HBOT? Even...

    Can Prednisone Worsen Noise-Induced Tinnitus?

What did you wind up doing? Just found this thread. I’m in the same quandary. Just now 12 days into tinnitus and hearing loss, so I feel like my window of opportunity is closing quickly.

Noise Induced Hearing Loss/Tinnitus and Prednisone — Helpful or Harmful?

Any idea why some articles only suggest prednisone for non-noise induced hearing loss and tinnitus? Any concern that prednisone could worsen tinnitus? Probably not the right focus I admit as I’m still in the earliest stage of this, but I’m finding myself more concerned about the noise in my head...

Noise Induced Hearing Loss/Tinnitus and Prednisone — Helpful or Harmful?

I’m new here, I did use the search function, and the flood of info is overwhelming. I’m having trouble figuring out whether or not prednisone is harmful or helpful in the early stages of noise induced hearing loss/tinnitus. This Saturday evening will mark 2 weeks since the offending event. I...

Is There Ever a Delay for the Onset of Tinnitus After Noise Exposure?

Thanks everybody, glad I found this group. Just over s week ago I couldn’t have even told you what tinnitus was. Now just over a week in I’m completely astounded at the impact it’s having on me in such a short time - anxiety, fear, flashes of anger and regret for letting it happen, depression. I...

Is There Ever a Delay for the Onset of Tinnitus After Noise Exposure?

I saw my GP, who just gave me a referral to an ENT. I got in early for a hearing test, but since I had no baseline there is no way to tell if this loss is recent or not. The earliest appt I’ve been able to get with the ENT is March 29. What is the deal with Prednisone, and what is HBOT?

Is There Ever a Delay for the Onset of Tinnitus After Noise Exposure?

How long have you had it in your right ear? I had my hearing checked yesterday. I’m middle aged, so I didn’t have the best hearing safety habits back in the day. My ears both track identical in the audiogram. Perfectly normal range or better, then from 4000-8000 Hz they fall to the border of...

Is There Ever a Delay for the Onset of Tinnitus After Noise Exposure?

I went to an indoor shooting range on Sat, Feb 12. I shot for about an hour and a half, and used over the ear muffs that were fitted correctly (maybe not the best muffs, but fitted). I wrapped up around 6 and had no issues that night. I had no issues on Sunday either, and even read for hours in...
