    Has Anybody’s Hyperacusis Disappeared 100%?

This is great to hear. I've had hyperacusis for almost 3 years and it's gotten better but not completely gone. Many people with hyperacusis, including me, describe the sensation of feeling like a protective "filter" has been removed from the ear with hyperacusis leaving the ear to feel raw...

    Hyperacusis Worse in the Winter?

I've had it for almost 3 years. It has improved over this time but very slowly. It used to feel very full all the time and I experienced a lot of pain quite frequently. After playing soft rain sounds all night every night while I sleep (to help acclimate my ear gently to sound again), taking...

Loud Concert 3 Months Ago — I'm Still Having Symptoms, Burning / Itching Ear

I also took Prednisone at onset of tinnitus and hyperacusis and I felt so much better. I felt like I was cured. But unfortunately my symptoms returned after the course of meds ended. I hope you have better luck and the improvement lasts. Keep us posted!

    Hyperacusis Worse in the Winter?

I definitely used to think it was worse in winter, especially when it first started. It seemed that I had longer stretches of comfort on hot humid days. I attributed feeling better to the warmth relaxing the muscles in my ear. I have had some decent stretches of comfort during winter months...

Loud Concert 3 Months Ago — I'm Still Having Symptoms, Burning / Itching Ear

I know how you feel, it can be troubling to think this will go on for years. Unfortunately, however, I don't know of anyone who has experienced a true "cure" from this. My experience in researching over these years and perusing various online forums and sites is that people do improve over...

Loud Concert 3 Months Ago — I'm Still Having Symptoms, Burning / Itching Ear

I've had these symptoms too: itching, burning, feeling something is crawling deep in your ear. I can especially relate to the feeling that a comfort filter has been removed leaving the ear to feel "open" and more sensitive all the time. These are symptoms of hyperacusis. I developed moderate...

Why Do We Have Good and Bad Days with Hyperacusis?

Is this the same as cochlear synaptopathy? I recently read about this damage to synapses which is believed to cause sound coding deficits which can lead to difficulty hearing in noise, tinnitus, and hyperacusis. If synapses are the spaces between neurons, I don't understand what "damage" is...

Trying to Cope with Tinnitus and Hyperacusis

@InfiniteLoop What do mean by "reactive" T? I've heard this before. Is it a situation where the T becomes worse based on certain sounds? I'm getting better at habituating to my T, especially when I am at work or concentrating on other things. However, if my ear is calm, then I sit down at my...

Trying to Cope with Tinnitus and Hyperacusis

@Lex Thank you for the positive outlook. I will continue to be optimistic based on accounts of others that have overcome their H even if the T persists. While neither one is great to have, if I have to deal with this, I'd rather narrow it down to one! And if the H can fade away at least the...

Trying to Cope with Tinnitus and Hyperacusis

Hi all, I have been suffering with Tinnitus and Hyperacusis now for almost a year, primarily in my right ear only. I've had very mild mostly unnoticeable tinnitus for several years. But the tinnitus came on much more noticeably after some loud music exposure in Feb 2016 and the hyperacusis...
