@Juliane Time, almost 3 years next february, living in a quiet environment and being supported by everyone around me. Sadly I would also say this is sheer luck, as some may have waited just as long and lived in silence without improving as much...
@Strawberryblonde I have 10 physio appointments to come, it's very reassuring and encouraging to read they truly could help you. I won't take Prednisolone and wait for the physio in a few days instead. Thank you <3
How are you doing these days..?
@stacey At home, I always kept low music in the background during the day, as I couldn't bear to be in complete silence. But I forced myself to go to bed with no masking whatsoever, as I felt my ears needed to rest.
@stacey But I still went out sometimes, plugging my ears when the car door closed, foam earplugs ready anytime I left the house, doing groceries when shops were empty... If it ever got too loud or uncomfortable, we left. I avoided loud events or places like the plague, still do.
@stacey But if I did stay home, I didn't stay in complete silence. My sound tolerance lowered at the beginning, as I damaged my ears by masking my T with music at lowest volume in my headphones ; my fiancé was very careful with noises around the house and dealt with the loudest ones (vacuum...
@stacey Immediately after onset, I was on sick leave for 3 months, came bach to work for 2, then quit. I stayed home for 9 months before finding a "quiet" job in a museum for 6 months. I've been home since last november and been unable so far to go back to any kind of work.
@ErikaS You're so kind to call me strong, I wish I could believe in these words... Most of the time, I just feel like a broken human being. Lifelong depression and anxiety didn't do well with tinnitus trauma. But thank you so much... Anyone surviving this nightmare day after day and still...
@ErikaS But it usually goes away in a few hours, 24h max, and isn't a severe pain. The severe ear pain I experience comes at night, but I've experienced it for years and years before my onset. Something to do with teeth clenching and tension all around the jaw/neck area...
@ErikaS However, loud environments still cause me discomfort - children screaming, people talking loudly. I had to leave a restaurant once, and usually end up with foam earplugs during family reunions because everyone talks too damn loud. Once back home, I have to ice my ears to ease the burning...
@ErikaS I had/have some kind of sensivity/reactivity. Before joining TT, I masked my T by listening to music on lowest volume with headphones, and it damaged my ears even more. I never put headphones again after joining this community. But I went through several loud events (fire alarms, 12...
@ErikaS I did have multiple tones at my worst - pure tones, wine glass, humming, chimes, computer/electronic sounds, bilateral. I still have multiples tones, they tend to come back in the evening or when I'm on my period, but remain extremely faint compared to what is was 2 years ago. That's why...
@SarahMLFlemmer I mean actual silence. Most of the time if I plug my ears during the day, I hear nothing but a sound so faint I would even hardly qualify it as a noise. I hear it a bit more at night, but I'm not talking about habituation. Loud tones and suicidal T have slowly disappeared these...
@Lurius I can't imagine how cruel the news regarding the machine must have been for you... You're in my thoughts, healing can't come soon enough. Sending my love to you and anyone reading this.
@Lurius I'm doing well despite a slight setback these last few days, but I'm feeling much better today. I have 95% silence most of the time, not a day goes by that I don't wish the same for you and everyone here.
@Lurius Thank you so much for your message and your kind thoughts, I think about you often even if I'm always too shy and scared to bother anyone to reach out. I've read your profile posts, I'm so sorry to see how painful and distressing things have been for you lately...
Hang in there, there have been smoother days and they will come again. I know healing feels desperately slow, but you can and will get better in time. You're not alone in this <3
@SarahMLFlemmer I have already had those "spikes" during the last year and everytime they got better within days, I hope this one will fade as well... My neck, shoulders and jaw felt very stiff lately, it might be a reason why. I've been icing my left ear and protecting it with a foam ear plug...
@SarahMLFlemmer The last months were so quiet, quieter and quieter in fact, so much that I had complete silence during the day and the faintest sounds at night. I shouldn't even complain for a spike as I know many here have it so much harder than me, but the slightest setback is enough to awaken...
@SarahMLFlemmer Thank you for checking in, this is so kind of you ! The last two days have actually been a bit challenging as I seem to be spiking, with ear pain, left ear feeling inflamed and very sensitive to sound and getting fleeting tinnitus...
Hi ! Thank you for your kind message, I've actually tried a sip of beer a few days ago with no side effects whatsoever, it felt great to enjoy the family reunion a bit more :)
How are you doing these days ?
Back when I had multiple and constant sounds, I found it so hard to describe it. Pure tones mixed with computer / modem sounds, wavering vibrations, wine glass... Madness.
This is the wisest thing to do. Since onset 2 1/2 years ago, I've stopped going to loud places entirely. I'm going to a wedding in a few weeks and will just attend the ceremony, I declined staying for the meal and party as I know there's gonna be 200 guests and insanely loud music. My mother...
I haven't drunk since onset, more than two years ago. I've barely let a drop of wine touch my lips once, I'm too scared of getting a spike.. I'm glad it worked out well for you !
Mine felt the same at times, oddly enough I started to put ice on it when it occured and it somehow brought some relief to the burning and inflamed sensation.
@ErikaS No, I'm not on any meds and only taking B12 supplements, but I've been taking them forever and doubt they could have such a side effect on the long term..? Thank you for your answer, I'm glad you could get rid of the vibration !
Though evenings usually are louder and the tones become more intrusive, the volume is very low compared to the torture and hell it was when it all started. It's what I keep telling myself on bad days when I'm trying to sleep and listening to this mess - it got better, it got better.
It can get...
