Auricle agrees to give an update, raises the hopes of severe tinnitus sufferers, and then unilaterally shuts it down, ultimately making things worse than if they’d never agreed to communicate with the community. I’m sorry, but that is amateur. In my line of work, your professional reputation...

Lots of hikes in nearby nature with heavy earplugs, lots of gaming without sound on, browsing on my phone with sound off, reading books. The worst part was losing my social circle and not being able to eat at restaurants but eventually it all came back. Prioritize recovery over everything.

No, he’s saying that he can’t use the device at all. It could make his condition worse. The last thing you want to do is have loud electronic sounds piped right into your ear if you’re suffering from noxacusis.

I work from home fortunately. I think that was a big part of my recovery. H almost seems like tearing an ACL but then having to run on a torn ACL every day. If we could just rest a few months we’d get better but we are bombarded by sound 24/7 so recovery takes forever.

Hello Yogesh, typically my ears start to feel “fatigued” and are more sensitive/sharper. That’s when I know I need to be done for the day as far as digital sound exposure. My Hyperacusis Recovery Story

I agree. Loudness hyperacusis seems to respond to more aggressive re-exposure and less protection. There seems to be way more of a support network available for loudness hyperacusis sufferers, I think most clinics that successfully treat hyperacusis are only treating loudness hyperacusis and...

    My Hyperacusis Recovery Story

This is one of the most valuable threads on Tinnitus Talk for those with pain hyperacusis and noxacusis. I am at the same degree of recovery as @windwalker, roughly 90%. That’s interesting. I have to match the tones to within a few Hz. Unfortunately I have over a dozen tones, so while I’m inhibiting lower frequencies the higher ones come back and vice versa... eventually I’ll make an audio file with all of the tones and enjoy sweet sweet silence for a few...

New University of Michigan Tinnitus Discovery — Signal Timing

That actually makes total sense now that I think about it. If you can’t hear the device’s tone at all, it probably won’t work properly, regardless of what tinnitus tone you’re hearing. Similar to residual inhibition. Not sure what I was thinking but you’re absolutely right.

New University of Michigan Tinnitus Discovery — Signal Timing

If you can perceive the tinnitus, you can “hear” your tone, right? It’s not an actual sound so I’m not sure why being deaf in the range of the tone would make a difference. My understanding is they match the device to whatever tone you’re perceiving. So whatever sound you perceive that...

I’m glad you’ve recovered. Keep in mind loudness hyperacusis and pain hyperacusis are quite different conditions and treatment doesn’t always work the same on both. In fact the stuff that makes loudness hyperacusis better can make pain hyperacusis much worse! A lot of people here have had...

Are there any other accounts about these procedures for people with hyperacusis? Any type of surgery worries me but catastrophic hyperacusis has tortured me for almost half a decade now. Hyperacusis Is Not Always Permanent: After 6 Months of CBT and TRT, I'm Back to My Noisy Job

We are just trying to look out for people. If you continue to expose when your ears are stabbing and burning, you can get exponentially worse within a matter of days. That’s my belief as well. It’s possible that whatever happens when you match your tinnitus tone on your own is just being extended with Dr. Shore’s device somehow. How Rare Is Severe Hyperacusis?

I dunno, I go back and forth. Severe hyperacusis is more painful obviously and it’s more debilitating, it destroys your life and traps you at home. Earplugs Making Hyperacusis Worse?

I don’t believe it’s just an ear damage thing. I was injured by electric guitars. I can tolerate machines and engines in the same frequencies at high decibel levels. So if you have no hearing loss, you’ll be blasting a 90 dB tone directly into your ears for 30 minutes every day? If so, this will likely not be viable for those of us with noxacusis and minimal hearing loss. I’m also not surprised that some participants in the study got worse if that’s...

I appreciate the effort here but this is the equivalent of tearing your ACL, going to physical therapy once, and saying that you feel a little bit better but your knee is still pretty wrecked. We just don't know what happens if you use the device for 12 months rather than 1 month, or for 3...

New University of Michigan Tinnitus Discovery — Signal Timing

I just don’t see how blasting artificial noise directly into your ears would improve noxacusis. It seems like the exact opposite of what we have learned to do with this condition. When I play tones the same pitch of my tinnitus tones, the tinnitus momentarily subsides. So with tinnitus there is...

Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Worsened After Taking Turmeric for Back Pain
