My Dream Is to Get a Motorcycle License — Can Driving a Motorcycle Make Tinnitus Worse?

My thoughts exactly! I'm still not done figuring it out but there are some really cool electric bikes on the market already. If they weren't so crazy expensive...

My Dream Is to Get a Motorcycle License — Can Driving a Motorcycle Make Tinnitus Worse?

That’s a good example of what I mean. If it actually was 90 dB and your hearing protection was applied correctly, there can't have been any physical damage to your ears. Either it was not really 90 dB (a-weighted measurements don’t show the real noise exposure), the hearing protection was not...

My Dream Is to Get a Motorcycle License — Can Driving a Motorcycle Make Tinnitus Worse?

Hey Michael, I agree with everything you said. Hearing protection has physical limits, and it must be used correctly to achieve the level of protection it’s designed to provide. However, I’m not talking about situations so loud that noise exposure can't be brought down to a safe level. I’m...

My Dream Is to Get a Motorcycle License — Can Driving a Motorcycle Make Tinnitus Worse?

I’m reviving this thread because I’m currently trying to figure out if motorcycle riding works for me. I’ve owned motorcycles, mostly Harleys, for most of my adult life until my tinnitus severely worsened around 2016. After that, I sold all my motorcycles because every time I rode, my tinnitus...

    Do You Practice a Sport?

You’ll be fine. 95 dB impulse noise is far from dangerous. My tinnitus is quite reactive and I have never had any issues with any spikes whatsoever when shooting my bows (recurve and compound).

Prostate Infection: Enterococci & Streptococci — What Antiobiotics Are Tinnitus Safe?

Hey @defender, i don’t know how it occurred - it just started gradually. I actually did not take the antibiotics because i went to another urologist who did not believe it was an actual bacterial prostatitis. I drank a lot of herbal tea and it went away eventually.

Are NIOSH And OSHA Guidelines Still Valid When You Have Tinnitus or Some Degree of Hearing Loss?

Supposedly they are but when it comes to tinnitus a lot of things that „aren’t supposed to happen“ actually do happen and you never know when or what it will be. I had a balloon pop in my car and I was 100% sure that it must have aggravated my tinnitus but it did not. I also went to an event...

Is Paxlovid (Ritonavir/Nirmatrelvir) Ototoxic? Can It Make Tinnitus Worse?

I am not a doctor nor am I claiming to be able to give medical advice. But I used to work in the scientific field and consider myself somewhat „scientificically literate“ - from what I have read Paxlovid does not make any sense unless you have severe pre-existing conditions or your COVID-19...

Reactive Tinnitus to Vibration (Power Tools, Low-Frequency Sounds)

I also suspect vibration to have caused a really bad spike for me. I was getting a tattoo finished last week and although I never had any issues with tinnitus after getting a tattoo (I have a lot), this time I used earmuffs since the tattoo machine was annoyingly loud. Unfortunately I think the...

Update Day 10 after the incident: Spike has not gone down at all. Actually, I feel it has even increased in the last 2 days. I have taken NAC for 7 days now, will stop it today to see if that might have caused the further increase. During the day I can cope quite well, but the nights...

Hey Rhea, I initially also thought that it can’t possibly have been long enough to actually hurt my ear. But it seems it did anyway. It’s day 7 after the incident and i still have a very loud hissing sound in my left ear. The fact that it’s only in the left ear makes me pretty sure that it’s...

I have had mixed experiences with Prednisone. It seemed to spike my tinnitus even more on 2 occasions. I had an IV course with 3x 500mg that did not do anything though - neither good nor bad. The tinnitus is definitely louder than before. Wasn’t sure about that yesterday but now I am. I pray...

Yesterday I was riding my bicycle when I was suddenly passed by an ambulance with sirens on. I was riding within a group so I kinda could not stop immediately to cover my ears. Shooting Rifles with Silencers While Having Chronic Tinnitus?

This is actually the first time I ever heard of this calculation method. it doesn't seem to make much sense: 30dB NRR are actually only 11.5dB reduction because you have to subtract 7dB from the NRR and then divide the remainder by two and that is then the real reduction?

Tinnitus Worse After Opening Ceremony of a Local Co-Working Space :(

I still just can’t figure out how this can possibly have been too loud for my ears? I mean even if it were up to 105 dB in the low frequencies (which it wasn’t) and even if the plugs only did -15 dB that still means 90 dB for less than 15 minutes. That can’t really damage anything... I am so...

I also found out only by VERY explicitly asking that they tend to do tympanometry and acoustic reflex as a 2-in-1. I declined the test to be done on my right ear so that might have at least saved a bit of my hearing. I definitely hear the new noises more on the left.

I don’t know exactly. During the day it’s not as bothering so I guess a „richer“ sound environment masks it better. The last 2 nights were hell though because a variety of different noises (pink/white/waterfall) couldn’t mask it. Watching tv shows was a tiny bit better but still very hard...
