Loud Distressing Tinnitus After Open Air Concert: Is This a Spike or My New Normal?

I’ve had many spikes over the years. Dealing with one now. All I can say is, try to stay calm. I’ve had spikes last a couple days to months on end... but I’ve always gotten back to my normal baseline. Protect your ears. Exercise. Eat healthy. Speak to someone - it helps.

REVIEW: Round and Oval Window Reinforcement Surgery for Hyperacusis — The Silverstein Institute

My hyperacusis has been beating me up pretty good the last couple of years. I’m wondering if there are any more stories/opinions from people who’ve had the surgery. I’m getting desperate for some relief but want to know this surgery won’t be waste of time... or make things worse. I have an...

Funny you ask- as of this week, I'm no longer conducting band rehearsals. It's just too loud and def the cause of my T and H spike. I'm now teaching small group lessons for most of my day. More manageable. Always with ear plugs. Hoping things calm down in the next few months. The T and H...

This is a fun thread, and I love that it’s so positive. Music has been most of my day for a long time. I love to compose, improvise, create and explore sounds/timbres (not so much lately)... but I’m hoping it’s a temporary hiatus. I’ll listen to most genres; it changes based on my mood I...

Is My Pain Hyperacusis All in My Head? Am I Making It Worse by Anticipating Pain?

There’s a lot to think about here. I know I have a slight loss in hearing around 6 kHz and based on what my audiologist said, there is damage to my outer hair cells. Guessing this is probably pain hyperacusis. Based on all of the different opinions, it’s hard to know where to go from here. My...

Is My Pain Hyperacusis All in My Head? Am I Making It Worse by Anticipating Pain?

@Orions Pain, my pain is a little different. No burning or jaw pain. It’s more like, volume comes in much louder than you’d anticipate... and it feels like the inside of the ear is trembling with small speakers/crumby audio.

Is My Pain Hyperacusis All in My Head? Am I Making It Worse by Anticipating Pain?

@Michael Leigh, thanks for your response. I have read your posts in the past. I did see a specialist who set me up with hearing aids that would deliver sound therapy. I’m not sure how that’s different from wearing ear buds or headphones. Am I missing something? She thinks it’s safe, but...

Hearing Aids with White Noise to Help Hyperacusis: Resulted in Tinnitus Spike and Worse Hyperacusis?

Hello forum! I have a question about hearing aids. My ENT set me up with white noise through my hearing aids to help with the hyperacusis. I noticed my tinnitus getting louder after doing this, but she said it means my tinnitus is reactive, and to continue with the white noise. My tinnitus did...

Small Victories Are Tinnitus Success Stories Too

@tbuzz89 I’d say that it continued to get worse (in terms of adding new sounds) for the first five months. I started with pure tones in both ears, then it just went down hill from there. I had pulsatile tinnitus for a while as well. There was a time where I felt like my chest was shaking too...

Small Victories Are Tinnitus Success Stories Too

Yes- we need to hold onto the small victories. Lastly, if I can’t deal with the sound, I put in my hearing aids with some white noise to offset everything in my head. Since I’ve started meditation (and living healthier) my low tones are 90% gone and the shaking I’ve felt in my chest is much less. All good stuff.

I have three different methods. Sometimes I go to a very quiet space- accept the sounds, and eventually they start to become secondary to my breath. I’ve noticed I can control the volume of different pitches as well. Sometimes I go to the beach- the wind and waves pretty much bury my tinnitus .
