Constant Fight to Prevent Worsening of Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Is Worthless

I’ve spoken a lot about my hearing issues but in the end, people who don't suffer from these afflictions don't really get it. I just try to live my life, suffering through every day and hoping for treatments in the future. We only have one life. My advice would be to try to go on with life. The...

Constant Fight to Prevent Worsening of Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Is Worthless

I think a lot of people suffer from tinnitus and hyperacusis in silence (no pun intended). Most people can't afford not to work and just have to find a way to pass through life. I’m bothered by my tinnitus every day and would say I have mild hyperacusis. I’m 34 years old. I have no choice but to...

Is Going to a Beyonce Concert with Tinnitus Safe or Stupid?

I got my tinnitus from a Beyonce concert and will never attend a concert again. Not worth it for me. It was a loud concert. My friend I went with also got tinnitus but luckily for her, it was temporary.

    Familial Tinnitus?

According to scientist Christopher Cederroth, some forms of tinnitus seems to be hereditary: Bilateral Tinnitus Can Be Hereditary My dad and grandma have tinnitus. I wish they had told me before I got it. I don't think we should blame ourselves too harshly for getting this affliction.

How Do You Cope Mentally with Hyperacusis and Being Homebound?

I feel for you and hope you’ll feel better soon. It’s a good sign that you improved in the first few months. If it's possible, you could try to talk to a therapist that is specialized in tinnitus patients. I don't think a regular one will understand this affliction. I went to three therapists...

How Do You Cope Mentally with Hyperacusis and Being Homebound?

Thank you for your input. My tinnitus and hyperacusis are fluctuating throughout the day. Sometimes my hearing is more normal and sometimes everything sounds louder. Very weird. I try to live quite normally. I avoid loud sounds and protect myself when experiencing normal sounds around 80 dB...

How Do You Cope Mentally with Hyperacusis and Being Homebound?

I want to start by saying that I’m sorry you have to deal with this. Life is truly unfair. I developed tinnitus and hyperacusis after a concert almost 5 years ago. I was only 29 years old and this affliction has ruined my life. I’m a very stubborn person that's how I get on with life. I force...

Best Guess on When Tinnitus Will Be Cured?

My thought about a cure for tinnitus is that it will be possible but not in the near future. Hopefully, Susan Shore's device will help suppress the sound and make the tinnitus livable. If we are able to regenerate hair cells and neurons in the future, I think tinnitus will be cured. I don't...

One can hope Shore's device will be successful and reduces the volume for real. I would be forever grateful to get tinnitus heard in quiet only. I’m kind of traumatized by this experience though and would still be bothered by noise. Unfortunately, we still have ears that are sensitive to loud...

Thank you for your response. It’s helpful to get input from another tinnitus sufferer. I think I’ll postpone the antidepressant route for now. I hope that the brain calms down if we can lower the tinnitus sounds with the device. It almost feels like some form of hyperacusis is the brain trying to make us avoid loud sounds. After Getting Tinnitus, My Outlook on Life Has Changed — Does Anyone Else Feel Like "Withdrawing"?
