Voluntary Assisted Dying / Euthanasia for Tinnitus Patients (Pegasos Swiss Association, Switzerland)

First of all, I feel so sorry for all the awful conditions you are enduring and for all the suffering. Tinnitus alone can be incredibly debilitating so I truly understand your current situation in which you are seriously considering applying for VAD. Think thoroughly about that. How long have...

In Loving Memory of Brian Jordan Pariente (Brian P)

@Frayact, Brian started to take Clonazepam, just 4 weeks, very low dosage. He stopped it cold turkey and shortly after he started to experience nasty withdrawal symptoms (hallucinations, as far as I remember). Then he reinstated Clonazepam for 6 weeks and tapered. I recall him saying that while...

I'm Lost with Constant Suicidal Thoughts — My Tinnitus Is All I Can Think About

@Pistolpete, hang in there as much as you can but I truly understand your feelings right now and what you are going through. Lorazepam usually works well but as you mentioned is not a long-term solution. 6.25 mg is a considerable amount of this benzo, hope you recover from this. Keep us...

    Suicidal

@danielthor, holy s... It really touched me deeply. Shedding some tears now... It brought me memories... Walking with my brother in Basel and talking on this subject. What a fucking, dirty and cruel condition tinnitus is. To be honest, hoping one day to be with him again. It really hurts.

Tinnitus Getting Worse — Original Cause Headphones? Benzos? Ciprofloxacin? NSAIDs?

You don't need to be a doctor to truly understand the side effects of benzos and their withdrawal symptoms. If you think taking such lower doses for a short period of time might not cause problems, tinnitus included, then you don't really know how powerful these drugs are. If you stop taking...

Tinnitus Getting Worse — Original Cause Headphones? Benzos? Ciprofloxacin? NSAIDs?

Hi @DocTors_94. Lorazepam, even at lower doses, is a powerful drug with nasty side effects and withdrawal symptoms. Some people have reported withdrawal symptoms after using it for a short period of time and when they stopped taking it. So, you took it (1-2mg, right?) for 11 days and did you...

I'm Lost with Constant Suicidal Thoughts — My Tinnitus Is All I Can Think About

How are you doing @Pistolpete? Hope you are doing better. Hang in there. I saw you mentioned how difficult it was to mask your tinnitus but try to persevere. Sometimes you even need to blend different sounds in order to get good results. It takes time though. Try to match the frequency of your...

Thanks for your answer, Tatsopa. It's a torturous road for sure. Glad you are feeling overall good but yes, you are absolutely right, it's always tough to get through those bad days / moments. Wishing all the best. Regards.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Those meds are so unpredictable that it is really tough to predict which ones are going to work fine. Having said that, I understand your current circumstances so they might be helpful for a short period of time. Ativan or Xanax have been helpful for some people but...

Hope you are doing good Tatsopa, definitely they can help you, even in a few weeks... but it is really hard and tough to take such decision. Have your condition improved since your post?

Ringing Ear After Waking Up Dizzy — Later on Got a New Tone in Both Ears, Maybe from Ambien?

The problem is that those benzos are so powerful and unpredictable even at such lower doses. It doesn´t require a long term use to experience withdrawal symptoms either. Some people have reported having huge difficulties after using them for just a few weeks and at lower doses. Definitely...

I'm Lost with Constant Suicidal Thoughts — My Tinnitus Is All I Can Think About

Sorry to learn what you are going through. It's pretty normal during the first months to experience such unpredictability and intrusiveness, making it even more difficult to cope and to habituate. Try to find a sound or various sounds with the same frequency of your tinnitus in order to mask it...

Tinnitus Worse During Clonazepam (Klonopin, Rivotril) Taper

How are you doing Magwell? Definitely just a 2-week use of Clonazepam can cause dependency and withdrawal symptoms when you try to get off them. Those are powerful drugs, even at lower doses. A rapid taper might have contributed to aggravate your tinnitus, no question about that. By starting a...

Voluntary Assisted Dying / Euthanasia for Tinnitus Patients (Pegasos Swiss Association, Switzerland)

I completely understand your concerns on the subject. However, you shouldn´t be too worried and I'm going to explain you why. As I mentioned before, medical files, albeit necessary, will not determine the final outcome in case you apply for VAD. They might work and be useful as a backup as long...

Voluntary Assisted Dying / Euthanasia for Tinnitus Patients (Pegasos Swiss Association, Switzerland)

@TheDanishGirl, agreed. That's the thing. It's so unpredictable, so cruel, so unexpected, so unforgiving... I truly understand what you mean with this. Hope you get better. @danielthor, i hope you get better too. Regards.

Voluntary Assisted Dying / Euthanasia for Tinnitus Patients (Pegasos Swiss Association, Switzerland)

I never asked them about that. We just sent the application and we attached the required documents / information. However, I remember they mentioned in their website that if VAD was not approved or even cancelled for whatever reason, you got the deposit back but they might charge you a fee. And...

Voluntary Assisted Dying / Euthanasia for Tinnitus Patients (Pegasos Swiss Association, Switzerland)

Hi Daniel. First of all, I'm not sure whether or not payments, deposits, etc remain the same nowadays. When we applied for VAD the initial payment was €5,000 plus the fees courtesy of our bank. In a matter of a few weeks we received a short email. VAD was approved. Then we made the second...

Voluntary Assisted Dying / Euthanasia for Tinnitus Patients (Pegasos Swiss Association, Switzerland)

Not really, it took us just 4-5 weeks to get the approval but definitely it might take more time depending on each case. You pay the initial deposit and later you make the 2nd payment once you get the VAD approved. Not sure if the whole thing remains the same though.

Voluntary Assisted Dying / Euthanasia for Tinnitus Patients (Pegasos Swiss Association, Switzerland)

@Tatsopa, it´s not necessary to be evaluated by their own psychiatric team. At least in our case it wasn´t. @TheDanishGirl, definitely they do for tinnitus (not quite sure if they do just for hyperacusis). They usually don´t for chronic mental illness (at least a few years ago). @roy1159...

As far as I am concerned, Dave, it was really important to update this information regarding VAD with Pegasos. It might be quite useful for some people. It kind of shocked me how powerful, effective and painless the Pentobarbital was when administered intravenously. I still remember like...

Voluntary Assisted Dying / Euthanasia for Tinnitus Patients (Pegasos Swiss Association, Switzerland)

Hi ajc. Absolutely, you need to submit several documents. In our case, we collected all the medical documents we got since his tinnitus onset. Voluntary Assisted Dying / Euthanasia for Tinnitus Patients (Pegasos Swiss Association, Switzerland)

Hi everyone. I've just come across this forum and this thread in particular in which VAD is being mentioned several times. I helped my brother a few years ago. He started suffering severe tinnitus in 2002. No apparent or discernible cause. He struggled badly the first two years, afterwards...
