Does Your Tinnitus Ever Stop Briefly and Then Return?

I've been noticing that my tinnitus will also stop for 1-2 seconds and then return. It's like the opposite of fleeting tinnitus. Fleeting silence? So odd... if it can stop for 1-2 seconds, why can't it just stop all together? Any theories on what causes the fluctuations? I can't seem to find a...

Prednisone for Hyperacusis: Any Experiences? Natural Alternatives?

I've had tinnitus about 10 months. I recently had new above neighbors move in who are doing plenty of "thudding." I have been experiencing more fullness and sound sensitivity since they moved in. I even had a brief spike/fleeting tinnitus after a particularly loud thud. Even though the sound...

For How Long Can Acoustic Trauma Tinnitus Improve? Weeks, Months, Years After Onset?

I've had tinnitus for about 9 months now. I noticed substantial improvements after the first 2 months and smaller improvements over the next 2 months. Since the initial four months, I haven't noticed a substantial difference. Sometimes I'm convinced it is a little better overall. However, I try...

Noise-Induced Tinnitus — Positive Success Stories

I just listened to your story about how you got tinnitus even using hearing protection around power tools. I got my tinnitus from one beginner woodshop class (nasty pneumatic staple gun without hearing protection) because ear safety was not mentioned in the class. Processing what happened and...

My Acoustic Trauma Tinnitus Has Faded Some — Will It Continue to Fade More?

@Eloy Resendez Jr Thank you for checking in! Things were a bit tough at first. Working from home was hard to adjust to since there is no background noise like office chatter, HVAC, etc., so I was much more present with my tinnitus. I did have about four days of lower than normal tinnitus last...

My Acoustic Trauma Tinnitus Has Faded Some — Will It Continue to Fade More?

Hi, Late August of this year, I experienced a pneumatic staple gun for several minutes in a small concrete room. My tinnitus started 2 weeks later, a few days after going to an American soccer game. The game was not overly loud, not as loud as likely elsewhere in the world. However, the combo...

ENT Promised My Tinnitus Has a 90-95% Chance of Stopping within 6 Weeks — False Hope?

Hi @HopefulPatient I'm so glad to hear that you are feeling more emotionally settled. I've read that hearing silence (even briefly) at an early stage is a good sign of eventual recovery. I also think that taking it as it comes and not looking too far into the future is the best approach. I'm...

Some People Use Tinnitus as an Excuse to Get Benzos?

Ouch! Sorry to hear that! It's amazing how few people don't know about tinnitus even in professions that have a high risk for developing it - like a police department. Hopefully he uses ear protection at the shooting range!

Some People Use Tinnitus as an Excuse to Get Benzos?

My ENT was very firm about not prescribing me benzos. I understood her rationale - my tinnitus is likely a chronic condition and benzos would not help treat the underlying cause. She eventually compromised and prescribed me a few to help get me over the initial high panic phase. I am thankful...

Exposed Myself to Freezing Cold — Tinnitus Now Spiking

I live in Minnesota (northern US next to Canada) so plenty of days below freezing this winter. I've noticed no effect on my tinnitus at all. My tinnitus is from a loud sound exposure. ENT Promised My Tinnitus Has a 90-95% Chance of Stopping within 6 Weeks — False Hope?

Damage to the cilia is a combination of intensity (decibel volume) and duration. Unfortunately the danger in explosions, gun shots, etc. is that because they can be so loud, they can damage your ears much quicker than a concert.

ENT Promised My Tinnitus Has a 90-95% Chance of Stopping within 6 Weeks — False Hope?

@HopefulPatient Your situation of how you got your tinnitus is very similar to mine (essentially a loud explosion from strangers who should have known better). I'm 31, so not quiet as young as you, but I've gone through quite similar feelings to yours about irresponsible strangers affecting my...

ENT Promised My Tinnitus Has a 90-95% Chance of Stopping within 6 Weeks — False Hope?

I really hope your tinnitus clears up and it very well may. However, I think anyone offering you a high level of certainty that it will 100% clear up (especially in a short, specific timeframe) is giving you at least some false hope. No one can see what damage might have been done to your inner...

Working in a Quiet Environment with Tinnitus?
