@Ultraviolet87 I feel like I’m in the same boat as you... I was distressed, felt better, and now I feel horrible again. Also my tinnitus has changed in tones and fluctuates a lot as well... I’m almost 4 months in. I’m praying a miracle happens...
@kyles yes this is my first time with tinnitus after a loud exposure... it was from a very loud car alarm that played indoor. Although I used to go clubbing a lot but never encountered tinnitus.
I also have no hearing loss and I’m age 29.
As for masking at night I sometimes play nature...
@kyles glad your tinnitus went away! Gives me some hope. I’m pretty sure mine was from acoustic shock/trauma as well... but it’s been 3 months :/
So what was the process of yours going away?? Did it gradually fade? What were the tones you were hearing from when you first got it till now? Did...
@Blossom that’s great to hear! I’m currently at the buzzing/hissing stage... although I sometimes hear the pure tone here and there. It even sounds squeaky sometimes. It has a mind of its own. I really just want it to completely disappear.
@Zud it was long, thanks for reading! And thanks for the advice...
It’s hard to enjoy watching films because I hear the tinnitus along with whatever I’m watching.
So how long did it take for it to disappear the first time?? And how did it come back? Do you go out with ear protection?? Sorry...
@Alfred87 that's good to hear. Mine still spikes to external noises, also it’s louder at night and soft in the morning. It fluctuates in tone as well... I just want this to go away.
@starrynights yes it’s definitely louder in the afternoon-night. I wake up with it a little softer and it progresses during the day. Past couple of days it’s like a buzzy/hissy sound.
I wonder if mine is caused by clenching as well... I catch myself doing it but I fell no pain in the jaws...
@twa I heard that too but it’s inconsistent... it goes back to ringing or a pure tone. It fluctuates so much and I get spikes from noises. I’m praying too!
@Tara Lyons for real... I had no idea this was possible... I wish I knew.
Yea I look at old pics and I’m like... hey I didn’t have tinnitus then. Even looking at others doing things on social media... I envy how careless and free they are. I’m living so cautiously now :(
@Tara Lyons I know I’ve come across a lot of negatives that scare me... I try to stay off but it’s so hard.. I just want answers and more success stories. So I keep coming in to check.
@Freyja95 This is definitely a time will tell situation. It just sucks, I think I am in a set back... I forgot my plugs and ended up in a bar for an hour and going through a spike... I hope it doesn’t stay this way.
Mine is in both ears! And sometimes they both have a different tone, it’s so...
@Freyja95 I agree staying positive is definitely the attitude you need to have or it can really drag you down. I feel up and down about it still.
Do you have fluctuating tones with your tinnitus? I think if mine didn’t fluctuate so much it would be a little easier... I think I can get used to...
@Freyja95 thanks for sharing! If mine doesn't go away (10 weeks with tinnitus), I'm hoping I can habituate to it and not concentrate on it. All I do is monitor it. Some days are good and some days are bad. It just feels like it will never get better. I do see a lot of success stories and I'm...
Thank you for all your input! I will definitely try to get out a little more... it’s just the more I stay home, the quieter it gets and then it starts all over again when I step out. But I will train my ears to over come it, because I really want to heal.
Yes I try to read only the success...
Hey @starrynights.
I also have a lower pure sounding tone that almost sounds like buzzing or sometimes a whistling that appeared after a month. Although mine has been fluctuating like crazy after my one month mark with hissing, buzzing, whistling, and morse code sounds. I just started my...
Hi @Michael Leigh,
I always get spikes after I come home :/ even from walking or hiking. I don’t want to overprotect so I only wear earplugs at work which is a little loud. But going to the stores or running errands I don’t wear ear plugs. I think it would be so much more tolerable if I didn’t...
@Tara Lyons I know exactly how you feel :( I used to be so social and now I’m afraid to go anywhere. At least it has improved though... Hopefully till the point where it’s gone, I’m praying for that day to come.
Hey @norwaygirl :)
When you went to the cafes, was it loud?? Did noise cause spikes for you? I feel like that’s the only issue with mine... it stays stable until I’m exposed noises.
Did you also have fluctuating tones?
@Martinf Did you have hyperacusis before?? Or did you just develop it? Do you notice anything you do that might be triggering your tinnitus to be loud? I know noise does with mine... I have different tones and it’s quite annoying. I can’t tell if I’m making progress or not.
Hey @Jass, it sucks we’re going through this... I’ve had tinnitus for 2 months now and it does take a toll on the mental heath. I’m not mentally strong to begin with so it’s been tough. I have pretty much the same symptoms as you, maybe even louder... I notice it when I’m outside, it is like a...
@Vassili
What were the positive changes? I can’t tell what’s positive or not... since mine fluctuates sooo much... sometimes I feel like it gets softer... then it gets way louder not even sure what my normal baseline is.
@Vassili hey! So what do you mean by reactivity?? Meaning your tinnitus gets louder after noise or tinnitus gets louder during noise? I have tinnitus that gets louder after noise exposure... especially after I get out of the shower, it turns really high pitch and loud... I thought it was fading...
What if there was a little fading but also a lot of spikes? Is that still considered fading? Like it’s semi quiet as long as I don’t do anything to irritate it... It spikes after I come out of the shower though... I’m 7 weeks in...
@cpmcmah I’m in a dilemma where I’m not sure if my tinnitus was caused by COVID-19 or loud noise exposure... or the combination of both. I had very mild COVID-19 symptoms... but my ringing appeared 1 month later after a really loud alarm went off... I too want more info about COVID-19 causing...
So I’ve been seeing articles of how COVID-19 survivors are getting tinnitus... I got my onset of tinnitus after a loud car alarm although I also had very a mild COVID-19 case a month before tinnitus onset as well.. now I’m not sure which one caused my tinnitus, maybe both?
Anyone else have...
@SeanD5054 I got mine from a loud car alarm that pretty much blasted in my ear. Yes I’ve heard that you won’t see a difference day to day but more month by month. Does yours fluctuate with different sounds?? I have the annoying EEEeEE then it sometimes sounds like a buzzing school bell, to...
Hey @SeanD5054, I got tinnitus around the same time as you (August 20th). I think we’re pretty similar, mine also gets louder or more higher pitch around noises although loud noises don’t hurt my ears... did yours fade at all? I feel like mine did a little but when it spikes it’s like going back...
Hi @Michael Leigh can you explain briefly what exactly hyperacusis is? I don’t have sensitivity to noise (pain or discomfort) but my tinnitus does get more aggressive after noise exposure even if it’s just outdoor noises. Is that my tinnitus? Or do I have hyperacusis?
@HZO Nice! Were you wearing ear plugs at all??
My spike finally came down a bit today but I’m gonna go out to the park later... we’ll see how that goes..
Maybe I’ll try Ginkgo.
@Michael Leigh thank you for sharing the post! Just ordered a radio/speaker to play some light music to sleep with. I stopped using headphone and headsets, but what about going out? Do I need earplugs all the time?? My tone changes everytime I leave the house and come back... it’s like a spike.
Hey @Alessia, I am glad your hyperacusis is gone now! I have tinnitus and it’s been bugging me for 7 weeks now... Does your tinnitus ever spike from not using your earplugs in normal noise settings?? I have earplugs but I do not know when to use them and when I shouldn’t... noise doesn’t bother...
Hey @billie48 I just read your success story. I hope one day I’ll be able to overcome this as well!
Did you protect your ears with earplus or anything? What about now?
I want to live my life but needing to be aware my surroundings is dragging me down...
@HZO That’s what I thought too!
There’s no spike at the moment??
I feel like mine changes tones when I come out from doing errands but I’m not anywhere loud... but if I do go somewhere “loud” like hanging with friends at a house it spikes the next day... I hate how protective we are with our...
@HZO oh no, I hope it goes back down... I went to work without ear buds yesterday... I’m having a bad day today, I hope it doesn’t stay like this... ughhh.
I went to the ENT and had no hearing loss either. I’m trying to get another appointment in.
I think I read somewhere that tinnitus may...
@HZO I’m dealing... I’ve have good and bad days all week... it seems like sound triggers mine but like a very late reaction... it’s like almost the next day for the bad spike to come... immediately after noises it just changes tones and goes back to whatever it was.
I took prednisone 4-5th day...
@GammaAlpha hey! How is your tinnitus now, compared to your onset? And What kind of fluctuations are you experiencing? I’m about 6 weeks in and my tinnitus fluctuates a lot as well. Not sure if it’s triggered by noise or diet...
And when the ENT said the situation may be due to COVID-19... what...
@HZO anymore improvements? There’s always success stories that people recover after months or years. I’m hoping that’s us! Still sucks though dealing with it day by day.
